Hi! There is an existing idea that looks to be wanting the same feature. Would you like me to merge your idea with this existing one so that your votes can be merged together?

Hey @Tactical Keychains, thank you for bringing this up. I saw a couple of your other comments regarding this, too, and hope we can identify a business challenge that users will agree with so our product team can move forward with a solution that addresses this challenge.

It sounds like you’re interested in a quick way to combine customs declaration lines to fit within the 5 line limit imposed by some of our carriers, is that right? How often would you say you run into these types of orders vs orders within the limit?

AdminShipStation (Product Owner, ShipStation) commented  ·

    Hi Boardgamegeek!

I just got confirmation from Stamps.com that 30 Customs Declaration Descriptions are now available for each shipment instead of 5. While this doesn't resolve some larger orders that you guys have described.

Thank you guys for your feedback!

AdminShipStation (Product Owner, ShipStation) commented  ·

@LifeSpa Shipping Dept LifeSpa - That's understandable. The less typing you have to do, the less chance of hitting other keys.

@everyone - Thanks for your input, guys! We'll let you know if there's an update on this one here in the forum or we'll reach out to you if we need more info.

AdminShipStation (Product Owner, ShipStation) commented  ·

@LifeSpa Shipping Dept LifeSpa - Thanks for chiming in! I'd like to see if there's something you can do today to help, and to see what works and what doesn't so we can better understand your business challenges.

Have you looked into creating declarations based on pre-defined values? This is particularly helpful when all of your products use the same description and are able to use the same harmonization code. Here's more info on that: https://help.shipstation.com/hc/en-us/articles/206639017

There will only be one customs declaration line, and you will have to update the value and quantity for each order. There are different things you can do to make these orders more visible so you don't forget to change the quantity and values--automation rules can apply tags, send emails to whichever email address you define, and trigger alerts. What do you think?

    Hi!

To clarify, are you inputting an email address on these manual orders when you are entering them? That is how manual orders’ customer records are saved.

Beyond that, you can import Customer records via a CSV record so long as a unique CustomerID is saved.

Just to clarify your ideas a bit more, what is the best alternative to this workflow that would help you guys save these records?

AdminShipStation (Product Owner, ShipStation) commented  ·

    Hi Jim!

Just to clarify, did these addresses which not get saved import in with an order that had a customer's email address attached to it?

For manual orders (or custom API orders) the customer record is only saved if you have an email address on the order.

As for a standard connection, the customer ID is what creates a unique customer record within ShipStation.

    Hi!

Which selling channel are you seeing the imported amounts for both Total Order and Amount Paid as being the same amount?

Also, are there discounts that should be applying to the amount paid that are not and do these show in the marketplace but when the orders import into ShipStation they disappear?

And if so, is there an example order that you can give me from your account so we can look over this with our support team?

HI! @Zachary, I've added your request to an existing one. Our developers have been alerted of this and I’ll alert this older thread with any updates to how we handle territory names being transmitted in the feed.

AdminShipStation (Product Owner, ShipStation) commented  ·

Hi! Thanks for the suggestion, at this time the address verification system used within ShipStation doesn't have the capability to autocorrect a state field from its spelled out name to its two character abbreviation. For instance, eBay sends California over as "CA" but the same is not always said of the way we receive Puerto Rico, which as you may have seen will sometimes send us the state name over as "Puerto Rico" instead of the required "PR".

If anything changes on the way this is handled, we'll update through this thread!

AdminShipStation (Product Owner, ShipStation) commented  ·

Hey, @DylanB! Thanks for the update. Is this happening only for your eBay orders?

Hi, everyone! We read all of your feedback daily and noticed that this idea hasn’t seen any activity since we last checked in. Can you give us more information about how Doc Tabs would help your shipping workflow?

Please comment here in the forum so other users can add their input as well.

AdminShipStation (Product Owner, ShipStation) commented  ·

Hi! At this time, the only label formats that the carriers send to us is the 4"x6" option. And while there are no immediate plans to change this format, we'll keep you posted if any changes are made!

AdminShipStation (Product Owner, ShipStation) commented  ·

Hey @Mano Miyata Best Damn Beauty LLC - Thanks for chiming in, do you have examples of what you'd like to see on the doc tab or have thoughts on the other comments below?

AdminShipStation (Product Owner, ShipStation) commented  ·

Thanks for all the feedback everyone, if you have any other uses please let us hear it! We read all of your comments as they come in.

@sachin86 - thanks for the update! Yes, it makes sense. Have you looked into using packing slips or order summaries (great for record keeping!) for this purpose? Or is this doc tab going to serve as a sort of mini-packing slip as suggested by @Chad earlier? Please let us know if these aren't good fits for you, and we'll reach out to you if we need more info so we don't keep blowing up everyone's inboxes. ;)

Here's some info on gift packing slips (doesn't show price) if any one is interested: https://help.shipstation.com/hc/en-us/articles/205901218

@United States Fellhoelter KnifeWerks LLC – Thanks for commenting! We read feedback daily and use it to help us prioritize fixes and new features. Our developer team has been made aware of this limitation in automation rules. We’ll be sure to update you here once we have news.

AdminShipStation (Product Owner, ShipStation) commented  ·

@William McWilliams - Thanks for posting your comment! Our developers aware of this automation rule limitation however we don't have an ETA on this. The only way to ensure your orders have decimal weight is to go into each order (with the Order Details window or the sidebar) and set it as such.

If applicable, you may be able to tag your orders as they import to increase the visibility to ensure you add the 0.354 oz.

AdminShipStation (Product Owner, ShipStation) commented  ·

Thanks for the update @Jon - I'll take note of your decimal weights. As for the mixed units, at the moment, units have to be the all-or-nothing setting and there isn't a way to set them on a per-shipment basis. Can you tell me more about having/using both units at the same time?

AdminShipStation (Product Owner, ShipStation) commented  ·

Hey @Alex Wolfram The Garage Shield, this is a known issue and we will update you and everyone else here as soon as we have more information on it. Thank you for waiting thus far. Have you looked into tagging your orders with First Class Mail? This way you can select all orders with this tag and use the sidebar to update their weights all at once (or use Bulk Actions!)

@Jon - I'm not sure I understand your comment, is it that you're interested in entering 1.5 lbs instead of 24 oz?

My apologies on being unfamiliar with GSP orders @guntap! I’ve come up with a better solution if you haven’t figured it out already. The rules are similar though, instead of saying “don’t send an email to GSP orders” it will say “only send an email to non-GSP orders”.

If you’ve followed the steps in this article to apply an order tag to your GSP orders (https://help.shipstation.com/hc/en-us/articles/206639637) then you can create a rule that says: “Order tags do not include (your GSP tag name), use email template for…” Be sure to add this rule after/below the rule that tags your GSP orders.

You can also become more specific in case you have other stores that do not need to be affected: If store = ebay and if order tags do not include (your GSP tag)… use email template for …"

Although this isn’t an optimal solution, this will…

AdminShipStation (Product Owner, ShipStation) commented  ·

Hey @guntap, thanks for the update! If your customers haven’t received an email notification because of this, you can try to resend shipment confirmations from the Shipments page even if the template was set to (don’t send email)—just open the order on the Shipments page, select a template, close the window, and select “Resend Confirmation”.

I took a look at the rule you’ve set up and it looks like it will properly send a shipment confirmation to your non-GSP orders. It’s possible that this is an eBay-specific issue that may not allow this type of workflow unfortunately I’m not able to create an eBay test order to confirm this. I would reach out to our folks via chat to see if they can dig into this a little bit more for you.

Another thing you can do is create a unique shipment confirmation email template (or delivery email template, if feasible) for your GSP orders and have an automation rule apply this new template to orders with the GSP tag. The email template could say something like “We’ve begun to process your order” or “Your order is on its way” and can be edited to not include addresses or tracking numbers.

Hey @HooRag Shipping HooRag! To help with your low inventory counts, you can set a reorder threshold for each of your SKUs or for all of the products (if any product is < 20 units, alert me). For now, as an alternate workflow suggestion, you could be marking these orders as shipped. You would want to set the carrier to “Other”, and then use the tracking field for your “Pickup” or “Pallet Delivery” custom message.
Here’s an article to go over marking orders as shipped in case its needed: https://help.shipstation.com/hc/en-us/articles/206640507

Thank you for the comments! As you may already know, we've just released our inventory management feature that helps you track your products to get ship done! This has taken a lot of time and effort to develop and we're still looking to do more. That being said, we're more free to research other ideas presented in the forum like this, but we're also still busy enough (with inventory improvements) that we still need time to prioritize ideas.

@TypeAFinance - What kinds of questions are you looking to answer with a "pickup" type of report? To help with this, you can create a "Pick up order" tag, filter your orders, and then export the filtered orders with a custom format. Understandably, this may not be feasible for all types of situations but if you need this information sooner rather than later, this would be one way to do it.

AdminShipStation (Product Owner, ShipStation) commented  ·

Hey, @ShariL, thank you for chiming in! Since August 2012, both our product and development teams have been working on lots of big and small things to help benefit all users such as a new interface, our mobile app ShipStation Companion, new carriers and integrations, and small bugs that help you and other shippers work smoothly.

I thank you and all of our users for your patience and help on your ideas! We're hard at work prioritizing all of the ideas and business challenges shared here by users today and read your feedback daily.

@everyone - It sounds like a lot of the users here are using the "Other" carrier in Mark as Shipped and entering notes into the tracking number field but want better access and visibility around this. How often do you need to use this "Other" carrier in relation to the number of orders you ship with ShipStation? Any information outlining your business challenge is always appreciated and helps point the product team in the right direction.

Hey @josesepulveda! Thanks so much for taking the time to bring this up! Can you tell me more about the orders you’re splitting? For example, are you always splitting off one particular product because it may be too large to fit into one box?

AdminShipStation (Product Owner, ShipStation) commented  ·

In my case, there are times that I will get an order for 15 items that need to ship in separate large flat rate boxes. So that's 14 separate split operations with the current split function. Customer is in zone 8, so it makes sense to ship separately. But there are times that sell 2 or three, to a local zone, and don't want them split since we can UPS them in one box.

Everybody has a different use case, I know. So while a product-level setting for "This always ships by itself" might be useful, I would still want to be able to do splits based on more than on attribute in the rules. (If zone > 6) AND ...etc etc

While you can split an order into two, and then take the order that has multiple items and split it again, you have to keep initiating new splits on one of the orders.

    --

I think the original request was to be able to have a way to say "Split order" and then from that one window, create three or more orders.

Here is an example I run into very often: A customer orders 15 of something. Each one has to ship separately, via Priority Mail.

So I have to take 1 order for 15 x item, and I have to split it into 15 orders with 1 x the item.

Think about the work involved, when you have to "Split Order" 14 separate times to get it down to 1 item per shipment with 15 shipments.

    15x
    14x 1x
    13x 1x 1x
    12x 1x 1x 1x

Once we can gather more feedback from our users with this need and do some research ourselves, the product team will review your request and you’ll hear from us once we have made a decision.

AdminShipStation (Product Owner, ShipStation) commented  ·

Hey, everyone! Thank you for all of your helpful comments! I might have one solution if you're having trouble tracking your packages.

If you use carrier-specific packages, you can go to Insights > Reports > Shipped Orders (located under "Raw Data Export". This report has a column header named "Package Type" that records what you select as "Package" when shipping.

For example, if you use USPS Medium Flat Rate Box, the export will say "MFRB". You can quickly put Package Type into a pivot table to count how many orders were shipped with carrier packages.

This won't quite work with your custom packages since the Package Type will say "Pkg". The dimensions are recorded, however, although this would require even more legwork on your part.

What do you think? Or does this not help so much because are a majority of your packages custom sized?

Thank you for providing all of that great information @Robert. We’ll keep this one in mind if we make other related changes to the Shipments page. For now, we’d like to see if this idea will gain more traction with other users who’d also like additional shipment statuses.

AdminShipStation (Product Owner, ShipStation) commented  ·

Hey @Robert, thanks for the update! The Recent status shows all of your shipments in the past week, so there are overlapping statuses here; it's a mixed bag overview.

There isn’t a good way to see if your shipments have been in one status “too long” today, but I can see how it’s helpful.

This next question is for you as much as anyone else who's interested in this idea: From your experience, how often have you found these “stuck” shipments, and what actions do you take after learning a shipment will be late or has been derailed?

Hey @pricedright - After re-reading the original post ShipStation will accept UTF-8 character sets by default. You're able to select ANSI by selecting it in the menu when importing orders via CSV method.

However there seems to be other character concerns here that we have yet to have the opportunity to research.
