  1. Please make it clear that the calculator is not necessarily giving accurate quotes

I was just using the calculator today to figure out how much to charge my customer for shipping. I went in, used the calculator, and got a "rate" of $33.88 for a 30 pound package to 48315 zip code.
When that customer actually placed the order and I went to create the label, I entered a 30 pound package weight to the same 48315 zip code the rate was $37.73. That's a pretty substantial difference, and when I contacted support they told me "so the calc does not send the full api call when requesting the rate" and that you…

    Thank you for your feedback!

Our product team will review this request when considering future updates to the toolbar rate calculator.

Additionally, our knowledge base team will update the Browse Rates help article to be more clear on this topic.

  2. FedEx non-standard packaging

In order to receive accurate FedEx quotes, please add the option for 'non-standard packages'

    Thanks for your feedback!

From what we understand, the “non-standard packaging” is a specific package type for FedEx that means: 1) measures greater than 60 inches in length but equal to or less than 108 inches in length; 2) is not fully encased in an outer shipping container; or 3) is encased in an outer shipping container made of metal or wood.

We are looking into what would be needed to add this option to ShipStation, but it is not clear at this time if the FedEx API will provide this functionality to a 3rd party app like ShipStation.

We will update this post when we have more information and know if we can move forward with this option or not.

  3. insert a tab that shows chronological order of shipments

Under the shipments tab there is no way to organize your shipments by time they were printed. For example, if I am printing a batch of 200 orders and the printer jams halfway through a label, I need to be able to see what the next label would be to make sure the printer didn't skip any when it resumed printing. The only option available now is to view the batch as a pdf and scroll through all the names until you find the name your printer left off at. Searching through a batch of 200 for a particular name…

Thanks for your great idea! We’ll keep this in mind but would like to see more interest from other users before we pursue this idea. If you know any other users that are interested please send them here!

Also, you mentioned needing to scroll through names within the batch should your computer jam to find where you left off. To make this a little easier, CTRL+F can be used in the browser to search for a name, or the Recipient column can be clicked to sort alphabetically. I hope this helps!

  4. batch archive

Ability to restore an archived batch to active.

  5. Change the default quote rate in the calculator to residential

It would be good if the calculator tool ( which is in an API the tool that quotes an order in third part sales software's ) could change the default commercial quote rates to residential, i know that you can change it manually for every single time you want to quote, but when you receive thousands of orders a month this makes a company like ours get hit by a loss of almost 40 thousand dollars just in the month of December. Because the commercial rate is anywhere from $1.00 to $4.00 less than the residential. So please make this…

Hi @Deborah Calderon Senda de Vida, thank you for bringing this up. In the app, there isn’t a way to change the default state to the rate calculator. If you’ve got the resources available, you can use the API to build a small widget for quoting your residential customers. The field “residential” would need to be set to “true” in every request you send.

Here’s a link to our developer documentation on this: https://www.shipstation.com/developer-api/#/introduction/integrating-with-shipstation

Please let us know here in the forum if this helps.

  6. Shipment Tracking Number Status Field & Estimated Delivery Date

It would be ideal to be able to go to the shipments tab and see the information that currently appears when you mouse over the icon next to the tracking number "Delivery Status Unknown", "Arrived at FedEx location", "On vehicle for delivery", "delivered", "Shipment information sent to FedEx." That way we can see a view of what's going on with our shipments and sort by shipment status.

It would also be great to have a field for estimated delivery date so we can update our customers without being forced to visit different shipping carrier websites.

    Both of these fields should…

Thank you for providing all of that great information @Robert. We’ll keep this one in mind if we make other related changes to the Shipments page. For now, we’d like to see if this idea will gain more traction with other users who’d also like additional shipment statuses.

  7. Batch processing to add customs information to international shipments.

We have 165 international orders from a Kickstarter project (along with about 1,600 domestic). The international orders were imported WITHOUT customs information provided. It would be EXTREMELY helpful to be able to "batch" add information for customs to all of these orders. Just fyi, we do not have these orders linked to "products/items." We would simply like to bulk apply information to all of these orders. Unfortunately, there is not a feature that allows me to do so with customs information. Huge pain...

Thanks for your input! You’re right that we currently have limited bulk actions for customs information, so we’d like for your idea to gain more support from other users before making a decision.

Any information you can add here may catch the attention (and votes!) of users in similar situations. Please be sure to comment here in the forum if you’re still interested in having bulk actions for customs information.

In the meantime, since we do not support Kickstarter directly, here is an idea from another user to integrate with Kickstarter you may be interested in: http://support.shipstation.com/forums/126593-request-a-new-shipstation-feature/suggestions/5619286

  8. Insurance on COST, not RETAIL price

When insuring a package, we want to be able to insure just the COST of the product if damaged or went missing, not the RETAIL VALUE. Currently your software takes the full retail value and uses that to determine the insurance amount. This doesn't make sense as shipping carriers will only reimburse you on the cost, not the retail value. This is a fault, as no system is set up like this.If I lose a $1000 item, but it only cost me $100, Fedex will only credit me $100.So why am I paying insurance on $1000 if Iêd never get refunded…

    Hello!

As we continue to look at the options around this suggestion, we wanted to let you know a possible workaround.

Currently, you can use ShipStation’s bulk update feature to update the declared value for all orders that have the same cost value. Just select the orders, choose Bulk Update > Insurance, select the Carrier Insurance option and enter the insure amount.

  9. API - multiple packages

It would be great to be able to automate multiple packages per order through the API.
