Product Feedback & Fresh Ideas

ShipStation’s Feedback and Fresh Ideas Forum is moving!

We have started the process of moving our ideas forum to a new home in the ShipStation Community.

As of August 4th, 2021, this Feedback and Fresh Ideas Forum is no longer accepting new ideas, votes, or comments. However, this forum will remain visible until shortly after the new Ideas board on the ShipStation Community goes live. After that date, this forum will no longer be visible.

If you would like to post an idea after August 4th but before the new Ideas board is live, we have created a temporary discussion board in the community for you to do so. Once our new Ideas board is live, our moderator will move all posts to their permanent home.

ShipStation has used this same forum since we released our very first version back in 2011. In that time, we’ve implemented hundreds of our users’ ideas! But, as our users and our product has evolved, we’ve realized the way we seek and manage our users’ feedback must evolve as well. Starting in September, all feedback and ideas discussions will take place in the Ideas board of the ShipStation Community

If you are not already a member of the ShipStation Community, please join! You can participate in user discussion boards, read exclusive community blog posts, earn rewards through community exclusive events, and much more. To join, go to community.shipstation.com and click the profile icon. You’ll be prompted to log in to your ShipStation account and then redirected back to the community where you can set your unique username and customize your profile (if you wish). What will happen to the existing Feedback and Fresh Ideas posts?

Unfortunately, we cannot move all ideas to the new Ideas forum. The posts we are not moving are being set to the  "Archived" status in this forum.

The posts we do move will maintain their statuses, voter count, comments, and link to the original poster.

Posts we will move to the new Ideas board:

  • All posts in Started, Planned, and In Consideration Queue statuses.
  • Some posts in the Under Review status or with no status, based on post age, recent activity, vote count, and relevance.
  • Posts that have been set to Completed within the last 12 months.

  • Hot ideas
  • Top ideas

  1. Send 'Delivered' Status to Store

What: Add the ability to sync a ‘Delivered’ status to Magento/Store.

Why: While there is a delivery notification email, customers are overwhelmed with emails. Where value is added is showing a ‘Delivered’ status in a customer’s account for the applicable orders. This helps maintain clear communication with the customer whether they check their email or account.

How: Currently in Magento there is the ability to create custom order status, and we are manually marking orders ‘Delivered’ to align with email notifications sent by ShipStation. This has helped build the trust with our customers. We are already taking the ‘Delivered’ status…

  2. Distinct shipping services available for unique account numbers with the same carrier

We have two different accounts with the same carrier. One acct. has best domestic rates and another acct. has best int'l. rates. When I try to enable only domestic shipping services for our "domestic" acct., it applies those same selections to the other account that we only want to enable int'l. shipping services for. We don't want the enabled shipping services to be mirrored on both accts. If we could enable a unique set of shipping services for each distinct acct. number with the same courier, that would be tremendously helpful.

  3. Change the default quote rate in the calculator to residential

It would be good if the calculator tool ( which is in an API the tool that quotes an order in third part sales software's ) could change the default commercial quote rates to residential, i know that you can change it manually for every single time you want to quote, but when you receive thousands of orders a month this makes a company like ours get hit by a loss of almost 40 thousand dollars just in the month of December. Because the commercial rate is anywhere from $1.00 to $4.00 less than the residential. So please make this…

Hi @Deborah Calderon Senda de Vida, thank you for bringing this up. In the app, there isn’t a way to change the default state to the rate calculator. If you’ve got the resources available, you can use the API to build a small widget for quoting your residential customers. The field “residential” would need to be set to “true” in every request you send.

Here’s a link to our developer documentation on this: https://www.shipstation.com/developer-api/#/introduction/integrating-with-shipstation

Please let us know here in the forum if this helps.

  4. add deliverytimes to grid or reports

it would be helpful to see delivery times in either the grid or in a report.
so I can know in advance if I should choose a different service because the delivery time is longer than expected.
you'd be surprised sometimes within the same state delivery times can be different.

  5. Show verified status throughout platform - Scan to Verify

Once items have been verified from the "Scan to Verify & Print" screen, allow that visibility throughout the whole platform. If items have been verified but the label has not been created, once you exit the "Scan to Verify & Print" screen, it does not show the products were verified if you search for the order instead of scanning the packing slip barcode. Also, allow visibility once the order has shipped. If a customer says they are missing items, you can quickly check to see if it was verified before shipping.

  6. Ability to apply/set a saved Shipping Preset via automation rule action

I am really surprised this is not an available action to have applied when processing automation rules.

This would be a work around to the issue of not being able to use a decimal when having an automation rule "Set package dimensions"

  7. Include Dimensions and Insurance to the Shipping Costs

Our In-Cart Delivery options for our store is only grabbing live rates for the weight and displaying it to the customer. We need the rate to calculate with the dimension of the product as well.

Customer would only pay, for example $25 for shipping according to the weight of the product, but when the label is created with the dimension of the box included, the label ends up being $35 and we lose $10 for one order. It also doesn't apply if the order is insured as carriers would only cover up to $100, any order over $100 would need…

  8. API should return all tracking numbers

Currently the ShipNotify and List Shipments API requests only return the master tracking number for an order. We need it to return all tracking numbers for an order.

  9. shipping weight rules when package is weighed

Rather than setting a total weight rule to set the carrier service to first class or priority mail when the order is imported, I would like to have the weight determined for the rule when the order is actually weighed. Taking into account the actual weight of a package. All of my product weights have a default of 1 pound. So I have zero products that would ever qualify for a First Class mail rule. But in actuality, about 20 percent of my orders qualify for first class.

  10. pull weight from etsy Orders

Shipstation pulls the weight info from EBAY, but not from ETSY, that would be a good tool to add so we don't have to add it manually.
Its a hassle on hundreds of orders daily specially since there are many different weights for many different items.

  11. Enable Amazon.DE ( Germany ) as a fulfilment provider

To ship FBA orders in europe, one used to be able to send the orders to Amazon.uk so as a "fulfilment provider", who could then send the orders out to europe. Since brexit, this cannot be done. The only other option is to send inventory to Germany and have them dispurse it around europe.
In Shipsation, Amazon.DE is a market place, but the ability to use it as a fulfilment center isn't available.
Please add Amazon.DE as a fulfilment provider.
They are the most ecommerce friendly country in europe.

  12. automation rules

be able to select multiple zones that may not be contiguous or multiple weights that may not be contiguous

So if I want to choose zones 1-3, zone 5 and zone 7-8 I could put in something like 1-3;5;7-8 instead of doing each in its own rule - that way I have 1 rule to create instead of 3

also be able to do the same thing soon shipping weights. greater than or equal to 1, greater than 4 but less than or equal to 7

this way I could create one rule and automate them to ship a specific…

  13. Customization around how product dimensions are applied to orders

Allow customization around the limit of not applying product dimensions if there are multiple qty/multiple SKUs on an order. Specifically, apply product dimensions even if there are multiple different SKUs on the order as long as only one SKU has a product built for it with dimensions.

We have separate SKUs for our packaging, chargers, cables, etc. to give us very detailed reports of our all our costs that go into a given SKU. However, the problem this causes is that every order does not get the dimensions applied because every order has at least two SKUs.

    Our current workaround…

  14. Additional Webhook Trigger - Voided Shipments

We need an additional webhook trigger that fires when a shipment is voided. This generally results in an updated tracking number that never gets sent over after the initial send.

  15. Blind Shipment option

Blind Shipment Option under "Ship From". We ship a lot of samples to end users for our customers. We would like the ability to "Ship Blind" where our Customer's address, typically the Third Party Billed Account, is the address that shows on the return label portion of the shipping label. Our current workaround is to add our Customer's address to the Ship From: locations and then select it in the actual order. Issue there is that we are shipping from Wisconsin to Colorado but our Customer's address is California. So the shipping cost is calculated from California to Colorado and…

  16. Delay shipping notification for manual stores

I use OrderDesk to send orders to ShipStation and batch process labels for our customers. ShipStation sends back tracking numbers back to OrderDesk automatically but there is no way to delay the notification until the first carrier scan. ShipStation only offers this setting when you integrate with a marketplace, not set a manual store.

We have vendor partners we drop ship for and they are requesting this feature.

  17. Shopify Click and collect

Shopify now allows enables customers to Click and Collect from a local store on you shopify account.

Can Shipstation differentiate Click and Collect orders and tag them or place them on a Click and Collect tab so staff do not send these to the default billing address that ship station defaults to from shopify.

  19. Lock in the shipping service

Resharing the idea a user posted in 2016 because it is still relevant today. It would help tremendously in preventing the mishandling of orders needing expedited shipping.

We need and would love the ability to lock the shipping service for certain orders. I can see two situations where this would be very helpful.

    1) When a shipping service was requested by the customer. I know that the requested shipping is labeled at the top of the Shipping Info widget but sometimes our shipping team gets shipping fast and will just choose the cheapest shipping without checking the requested ship method.…

  20. Bulking orders using Customer Names and Using Courier A AUTOMATED

For example if customer A orders 2 items from 2 different used couriers it will not bulk the order together on Ebay, Having a ruleset that states “if customer A = Customer A” and has the same name and the their order is “greater than 1” Then Action would be bulk the order together and use “Courier A” as it currently stands it uses courier A and Courier B for the orders and won’t bulk the order meaning if there’s a large quantity of effected orders then it might add to time to dispatch which could cause issues.
