ShipStation’s Feedback and Fresh Ideas Forum is moving!


We have started the process of moving our ideas forum to a new home in the ShipStation Community.

As of August 4th, 2021, this Feedback and Fresh Ideas Forum is no longer accepting new ideas, votes, or comments. However, this forum will remain visible until shortly after the new Ideas board on the ShipStation Community goes live. After that date, this forum will no longer be visible.

If you would like to post an idea after August 4th but before the new Ideas board is live, we have created a temporary discussion board in the community for you to do so. Once our new Ideas board is live, our moderator will move all posts to their permanent home.

ShipStation has used this same forum since we released our very first version back in 2011. In that time, we’ve implemented hundreds of our users’ ideas! But, as our users and our product has evolved, we’ve realized the way we seek and manage our users’ feedback must evolve as well. Starting in September, all feedback and ideas discussions will take place in the Ideas board of the ShipStation Community

If you are not already a member of the ShipStation Community, please join! You can participate in user discussion boards, read exclusive community blog posts, earn rewards through community exclusive events, and much more. To join, go to community.shipstation.com and click the profile icon. You’ll be prompted to log in to your ShipStation account and then redirected back to the community where you can set your unique username and customize your profile (if you wish). Once registered, you can participate in any discussion on the community. 


What will happen to the existing Feedback and Fresh Ideas posts?


Unfortunately, we cannot move all ideas to the new Ideas forum. The posts we are not moving are being set to the  "Archived" status in this forum.


The posts we do move will maintain their statuses, voter count, comments, and link to the original poster. 

Posts we will move to the new Ideas board: 

  • All posts in Started, Planned, and In Consideration Queue statuses.
  • Some posts in the Under Review status or with no status, based on post age, recent activity, vote count, and relevance.
  • Posts that have been set to Completed within the last 12 months.

  1. Let me choose Canada Post location for shipping

    We need to be able to ship packages from a different Canada Post location than the nearest one. In fact, Canada Post recommends we go to a different location when we have many packages to ship at once. Currently there is no option in ShipStation to choose the Canada Post location we want. Canada Post looks at our End of Day forms to see which location we need to ship our packages from. The current location chosen is small, downtown (requiring parking costs), is currently surrounded by construction, and the location also said they are not used to processing packages…

  3. Autopopulate SKUs after 2 characters

    When creating a new manual order, SKUs only auto-populate after 3 characters. But ShipStation allows you to create SKUs that are only 2 characters long, so those SKUs will never auto-populate. Please fix this.

  5. Add order information via API after order is marked as shipped

    For some operations, it would be helpful to be able to provide updates via API to orders. Currently, orders marked as 'shipped' are unable to be updated via API.

    For some warehousing and after-sales fullfillment services, being able to update "internal notes" or "custom field" fields would be helpful. Currently this can only be done manually.

    For example after a customer orders and the product is shipped, it would be useful to input the serial number of the product that was ultimately shipped, which is only learned after the shipping label has been applied.

  6. Show orders packed and labeled but not yet picked up in Pending Fulfillment

    I need to be able to have orders go to pending fulfillment so that the warehouse knows what has been packaged or not. Right now it's confusing because as soon as a label is created, it's marked as shipped. It makes no sense that there is no step in between so that there is a differentiator between a package that is picked and awaiting pick-up and simply has a generated shipping label.

    Add a Order Print choice of by Ship to, and not Buyer. We use Shipstation to print labels for a subscription service, that is often times given as a gift. The Buyer and the Name on the address are often different, and require a note. It would be nice if the shipping labels printed in the same order that our notes print out.

  8. E-mail specific recipients for various events within ShipStation

    Can we have a feature which lets us set up e-mail lists for people (not necessarily customers) to receive updates as shipments move throughout the ShipStation system?

    For instance, I would like to have the system send an e-mail to a person in our mailing department whenever the labels for a batch are printed, and maybe for other events such as shipments being cancelled, shipped, postage being deducted, etc.

  9. set refresh date back ourselves (API and ODBC stores)

    Every day or two an order gets missed from our ERP system and never gets imported into Shipstation. When this happens we have to contact support and ask that they do a refresh for us (not the manual one on the top of the screen) and set the refresh date back to reimport the order.

    This takes time, stops our work in out tracks and really hurts our productivity. Having an option (maybe buried deeper in the settings) for a "hard refresh" or "back in time refresh" to do a one time refresh for any orders that were skipped for…

  11. Ability to create automation rules for payment plan orders

    Our payment plan orders' "Product amount" is more than the "total paid" amount. Is there any way we can create automated rules based on if the "Product total" amount is more than "Total Paid" amount?

  12. Create new tags via API

    It would be great if new tags could be created using the API via POST request. Something like /tags/createtag with name and color attributes.

  13. Add a "Today" button to the Advanced Search Calendar

    When I open the calendar, it always seems to open months ahead of today's date - it would be great if it opened on "today" or had a "today" button that bring the calendar to today.

  15. Offering UPS integration with Volusion stores

    We wish we can offer UPS rates with our Volusion stores. Right now we are only able to offer FedEx (our own account) and USPS rates, but missing out giving customer the option for UPS shipping (using ShipStations good rates).

  16. Sku or item specific automations

    We would like the ability to automate package selection based on a specific Sku or item or tags quantity in a order containing more then that item.

    we have large items (hats which can fit other items in with them but need the hight adjusted when there are more of them because of hight) but do not need to be in a larger box when combined with smaller items. there is now way to do.

    example if order contains 3or more (sku, tag or item type)

  17. Have the ability to make barcodes for different box sizes

    It would be nice to have the feature to have boxes size barcodes on packing stations for packers to scan the box size the are using and then another barcode to print the label so everything can be done with the scanning gun rather than including the use of the mouse. Then they can scan a "new" or another barcode that will refresh the scan and pack screen and continue on scanning the next order to help speed up and automate the process.

  18. Test for Rate

    ShipStation product details, service mapping, and automation rules are great for processing incoming orders and applying shipping rates but it comes up short and there are always some orders that do not get a rate and need attention and manual effort.

    If there was a criteria to test for rate I could write additional rules to update the order information to successfully get rate without manual effort.

  19. 3rd Party Fulfillment

    We host 3rd party vendors on our Shopify store and would like to be able to not have all items for an order import into Shipstation. I would like only the items that are going to be fulfilled from that specific location show-up for our team. For example if the customer buys 3 items, 2 to be fulfilled by our warehouse and 1 by 3rd party, I would only want the 2 items to be fulfilled by us populating into Shipstation.   20. Bulk Edit; Add notes into a BATCH and not JUST from the awaiting shipments screen!

    SS used to have the feature where you could bulk edit and add a note to a batch that has been created, opposed to just doing it from the awaiting shipments screen (bulk or individual).

    Please bring this feature back!

    As an example,

    if we have 500 orders and need to go through about 200 of them to find 30 specific orders to batch, it's much easier to dump them in a batch as you go, and then add the bulk edit (add a note) from the batch itself, not from the awaiting shipment screen.
