Customizable Views and User Permissions
Ability to further customize what each user sees in ShipStation (Shipped, Cancelled tabs on the left side of page)
When we have people join our shipping team, I know that ShipStation can be a bit overwhelming. So the simpler and more straightforward the layout, the easy it is to train people.
What it accomplishes: Easy way to train new employees.
Our product team is currently looking at ways to expand and improve how user permissions work in ShipStation. We will take the suggestions in this idea thread into consideration as we plan the roadmap around account and user permissions.
It would greatly benefit us if we could control with permissions which users have the ability to change order status. For example, our shippers need access to do everything to a normal order to create labels, but we do not want them changing orders from ON HOLD to AWAITING SHIPMENT!
Why? We can't ship certain items to certain countries and have automation rules and filters to place for these types of orders to automatically place them in ON HOLD. We have Managers who review these orders every day to determine if they are okay to ship or not, but only they should be the ones who can change them.

This is the most basic privacy feature is to block internal users from the ability to get all your customer's orders, shipments, and data in 1 click. I am shocked this does not exist yet. starting to look for a shipping solution that cares about their customer's data and privacy.

We would like to have a user account setting with read only rights. We have employees who do not work in logistic but are always needing tracking details so we would like them to be able to view records but not edit or create them.
Thank you for your feedback!
You can actually accomplish this now by creating an automation rule that assigns orders to that user based on the selling channel the order imports from. Then, set the restriction on that user so they can only see orders assigned to them.
See the attached image for what that rule would look like.
Review our help articles if you need to learn how to create automation rules or set user restrictions:

Sometimes our packers accidentally create a batch and accidently "ship" a large amount of orders. If we could disable the ability to create batches on a user level it would be of great help

I have different users under my account that use different printers (some thermal some regular printers). It would be nice to be able to give them permission to change only the label format. I don't want to give them permissions to change other settings on my account

Completely confused why the ability to add/modify package sizes is lumped in with "configuration" permission which also lets a user modify shipping couriers, warehouses, marketplace stores and other broader configurations. So the shipping department in order to be able to modify standard box sizes also has to have access to effectively configure all these other things? That doesn't make sense.
Either just let anyone with "shipping" permission update package sizes - since they - ship stuff. Or it should be separated out.
Need an option to make Scan to Verify mandatory.

I know that currently you can restrict users to only view inventory data, but I'd like to be able to also restrict which warehouses they have access to, or even restrict by product category. We are a third party fulfillment center and we want to be able to allow our partner's to log in but not see other company's inventory levels or data. I hope this is possible! Thank you.
Thank you for your feedback!
We don't currently have a way to restrict a user to specific orders based on order status, but we are currently looking at several requests around user management and user permissions/restrictions and this request also falls under that larger umbrella. As such, we are also going to merge this idea with a very similar one, so we can keep track of the ideas and all the comments about it in one place.
We do want to offer a potential work around for you in the meantime that, while not achieving exactly what you are requesting, may help you get a bit closer.
You might consider using a combination of assigning orders to users (either manually or using automation rules), setting that user to only have "Shipping" permissions, and also restricting that user to see only orders assigned to them and shipments created by them (see attached images).

We would like to be able to restrict a user from reprinting a shipping label.
We have seen a few instances where a user reprints a label for a package that has already shipped and affixes it to a completely different package.
It would be great if it allowed for an override from management, otherwise management would login and reprint in the event a reprint is needed.
Absolute must, utterly basic baseline functionality to be able to restrict the creation of new orders by user - or even better, by user role.
We would love to be able to hide customer emails and phone numbers from certain 3PL partners we have as separate users in our account. Thank you.
Some users need to see only the orders from a specific selling channel
We would like to see a Permission setting to restrict a user from creating Manual Orders.
Manual Orders is a powerful feature as anyone can ship anything anywhere without any restriction. Currently any users with Order Management can create Manual Orders. This creates a risk of shipper creating manual order with no restrictions.

We do not want our additional users to make "create return labels" on shipstation. We have different return policies. Can this be blocked when customizing the user permissions? Currently it is not a feature.
This is definitely something that needs to be addressed. As more companies turn to omni-channel for order fulfillment, each location should be isolated to their own shipments for End Of Day manifests. We have 13 Users (locations), and any one of them can accidentally perform an End Of Day for All.
If a user is restricted to viewing only orders assigned to them, they're unable to create orders. In a multi-user setting, this is problematic, as users dashboards should not be cluttered with orders not assigned to them - but it should not restrict them from being able to create shipments!
We should be able to allow users to create shipments, while at the same time, restricting them to only seeing (a) orders they create and (b) orders assigned.
Right now, to allow users to create orders, they must also be able to view all orders (unrestricted) - a major problem!
We would like to restrict users from running a manual order refresh per store. Currently, any user can refresh orders manually and disrupt batch updates. Such access should be permission based so that we can restrict unauthorized users to download orders without schedule. Such permission assignment should be possible to apply per store NOT a blanket application across all selling channels.
It would be immensely helpful to be able to restrict specific users from being able to edit, restore, or ship orders that are not in "Awaiting Shipment". Restoring an order that is on hold, shipping an order on hold, or moving an order into awaiting shipment are all things we would like to only have available to specific people. The person shipping the items may not be in a position to make those choices and may (and do) accidentally ship orders they shouldn't. Being able to place a restriction per user regarding what actions can be performed, or what folders they can access would be great.
