Customizable Views and User Permissions
Ability to further customize what each user sees in ShipStation (Shipped, Cancelled tabs on the left side of page)When we have people join our shipping team, I know that ShipStation can be a bit overwhelming. So the simpler and more straightforward the layout, the easy it is to train people. What it accomplishes: Easy way to train new employees.

Our product team is currently looking at ways to expand and improve how user permissions work in ShipStation. We will take the suggestions in this idea thread into consideration as we plan the roadmap around account and user permissions.

Thank you for your feedback!
We don't currently have a way to restrict a user to specific orders based on order status, but we are currently looking at several requests around user management and user permissions/restrictions and this request also falls under that larger umbrella. As such, we are also going to merge this idea with a very similar one, so we can keep track of the ideas and all the comments about it in one place.
We do want to offer a potential work around for you in the meantime that, while not achieving exactly what you are requesting, may help you get a bit closer.
You might consider using a combination of assigning orders to users (either manually or using automation rules), setting that user to only have "Shipping" permissions, and also restricting that user to see only orders assigned to them and shipments created by them (see attached images).
To learn how to assign orders to users, review this article: https://help.shipstation.com/hc/en-us/articles/360026156911-Hold-Assign-and-Cancel-Orders#UUID-d913aa19-7d67-7120-9845-3fd7f86c86d7

It would be immensely helpful to be able to restrict specific users from being able to edit, restore, or ship orders that are not in "Awaiting Shipment". Restoring an order that is on hold, shipping an order on hold, or moving an order into awaiting shipment are all things we would like to only have available to specific people. The person shipping the items may not be in a position to make those choices and may (and do) accidentally ship orders they shouldn't. Being able to place a restriction per user regarding what actions can be performed, or what folders they can access would be great.

Some employees are not able to reliably combine orders and I would love a check box to be able to remove the ability to do that based on the user's skill level. I need the shipping supervisor to be able to do it but not the shippers.
Combining errors usually manifests when they combine orders which shouldn't combined be as:
-Orders going to reshipping center
-The same customer orders a small item paying for overnight and a large item with free shipping shouldn't get the large item with overnight shipping
-Orders are combined with completely incorrect orders due to errorI know everyone with a growing shipping team has had these situations.

If you take a look at linnworks which is what we are integrating you with and your program offers much of the same features they do.....they offer about 50-70 options to restrict certain features from occurring. However, once I send them over to you for shipping (because you offer smartpost and pricing visibility on the interface)...it becomes nearly a free for all from an inventory loss perspective.
For example, I can get micro down to the user to not let them change addresses. Or i can not let them change items in order.
Just check boxes to that level per user. That's a big deal instead of lumping things together and the lumping isn't even very good.
Like in order to change cut off time and making your manifest show the products on the next day...you basically have to have admin access.
In order to block a user from editing...you have to assign orders to them. -

Completely agree with Valerie. This would save us hours a day going back and forth with tracking numbers or double checking addresses. Customers don't need to see our other customers, postage or account details.

I do a lot of third party shipping and I would love to be able to create staff accounts for my customers to go in and view their stores but really only view orders, shipments and the tracking for shipments. I spend hours a day giving them tracking numbers and for me to be able to give them access to only viewing their orders and tracking would be HUGE. I don't need them to know what I spent on postage or any of my account details, just their tracking.

This is something we have been needing for a while. Please add it.

We were looking to add some users, but I want to restrict them from modifying the address.
The reason we are asking for this is because - we ship out very expensive merchandise at times $10k+ and we do not want to provide employees the opportunity to ship the package to a friends or familys house.
Although I trust the staff- most thefts are crimes of opportunity and we want to limit the opportunity of this type of theft.

No feedback on this? Is no one else using the "Assign" feature to manage shipping across multiple fulfillment locations?
-
John TXI commented
We have multiple fulfillment locations, each with ShipStation accounts and shipping terminals. As each location is able, they assign orders to themselves and begin fulfillment.
Unfortunately, when an order is assigned to a user, ShipStation does not update the list of orders to reflect this for all logged in users. Instead, other users must manually "reload" the list of orders.
This makes it very easy for one location to re-assign an order to itself after it has already been assigned to a different location. There are a number of "solutions" that would fix this problem.
1) Warn a user that an order is already assigned if a user attempts to re-assign.
2) Reload the list of orders for all locations whenever a user at any location assigns an order.
3) Treat assigning an order similar to how shipping an order currently works. That is, grey out the order in the order list for all users and display the orange warning message that X many orders have changed and the user should reload.
Any of these solutions would work for our use case.

I would love to see this feature added! We have a customer service team that processes replacement orders through Shipstation, but I don't want them to see any other store than the Custom Store that I have created for this purpose. I definitely would like to see more options in the area of restricting certain users of certain features.

we use different pc's in different states. we have to scroll through each others presets to pick the right preset according to what we are shipping and where it is shipping from. would be much easier if presets were able to be set per pc instead of per account.

Ship Station already enables us to restrict users to fulfill and edit orders by store why How difficult would it be to hide a sub menu item "Store" from each of the side menu drop downs and order page filter. I can't see it being that big of an extension of functionality as Ship Station already allows me to hide menu items by user. I just need to hid the sub menu item and filter "Store" I don't see why every employee of mine should be able to see everything about my organization when they only have the ability and clearance to service one part of my company. This request really has nothing to do with functionality as it is more of a cosmetic fix in the admin. Maybe just disable Filters for certain user would be a quick and dirty method to get this done? just a thought.

We agree with Larry Saint-Marie, this limited access log in would be fantastic. We operate in a very similar way and with the various requests from our customers, we would need a dedicated admin. Would be fantastic to have this solution:
"I would like to give a client a way to log in and only see shipments, tracking numbers assigned to the client. No dashboard, no order management, no reports on shipping costs, no tabs, no menus, nothing but the shipment table, filtered on "assigned to"
currently not possible - too much other data is accessible ( try giving a user access to "reporting" and check the "only see orders assigned to user" ....that gives full access to all order data ! )" -

We dropship for our clients. I would like to give a client a way to log in and only see shipments, tracking numbers assigned to the client. No dashboard, no order management, no reports on shipping costs, no tabs, no menus, nothing but the shipment table, filtered on "assigned to"
currently not possible - too much other data is accessible ( try giving a user access to "reporting" and check the "only see orders assigned to user" ....that gives full access to all order data ! )reason: my clients need to extract tracking number from the shipment email they receive, then enter that into their own platforms/Etsy/Amazon...etc. that is tedious for them, would be better to give them a csv of their orders and tracking numbers on a self serve basis. ( i know i can make a filtered report, but i don't have the time to do this every day )

We're working on a project from two separate warehouses. We have one warehouse on the East coast and one on the West Coast. Each warehouse produces different items. However, these items can be ordered from a single store.
We are currently routing them to separate stores in Shipstation. However, an issue we are seeing is that the orders share the same order ID/# and we are seeing the wrong order being shipped by accident more often that we'd like.
I'd love to see an option to restrict users to certain stores or so that they could not see certain stores. I know that we can assign orders to one user and that would prevent other users from seeing it, but we have multiple users at each facility.
If there are other workarounds, I'd be open to it. This just seems like the best solution and what would hopefully be an easy addition.

@DCRCTX - Thanks for that info! You should be able to tab through the fields but this may vary between operating systems. Perhaps there is a setting on your computer that will allow you to tab into textboxes and lists only like the Mac OS does.
But if there isn't a system-wide setting on your computer effecting your tab behavior, have you had the chance to use Shipping Presets? You can customize any number of hotkeys (that aren't already in use by your browser) to apply weight and package dimensions. Here's how to get there: https://help.shipstation.com/hc/en-us/articles/205899808

I find the fonts and colors of the classic interface easier to read, and faster to use. In the classic interface in the order information section or "SHIPPING the font color is BLACK #000, on the new interface it is #555 or #222 in the all order area.
Also like the dimension and weight on the bottom. If I have a off size box, I can use a short cut key, and then select the first box and "tab" through and make changes without having to touch the mouse.

@everyone - Thanks for the updates! If you haven't added your thoughts on our last update, please let us know what works and what doesn't work today.
@joesager - For a customer service role, I recommend having him use only the "Customers" page. That way he can search for orders by recipient name and see all of the orders for the recipient at once.

Would be great to adjust the specific layout for each user for sure.. But I'd also like to see additional customizations as well. We have a customer service guy here who is not trainable on brand new tech. We'd like to offer him the ability to be able to at least search all the orders in ShipStation and have all the customer's information and tracking number when he talks to customers.
