Allow Custom Shipping Method
Would like to be able to add a custom shipping method, for example Customer Pick Up, or Pallet Delivery.Sometimes we also ship to a marketplace with shipping labels provided by the marketplace, however we'd still like to process the order through Ship Station, just not use our UPS/Fedex account, for example. At present there doesn't seem to be any way to override the shipping presets.

Thanks for leaving your thoughts, everyone! We’ll keep this in mind; for now, please leave your votes and comments to help keep this discussion active. Being specific in how this would affect your workflow and how you’re currently doing it will help our product team to implement new features.
For now, as an alternate workflow suggestion, you could be marking these orders as shipped. You would want to set the carrier to “Other”, and then use the tracking field for your “Pickup” or “Pallet Delivery” custom message.
Here’s an article to go over marking orders as shipped in case its needed: https://help.shipstation.com/hc/en-us/articles/206640507

Another vote for being able to enter a custom carrier when selecting "other"! We do a combo of freight and parcel. If we could enter a custom name for the carrier, remote team members could see at a glance both the carrier and the tracking/pro number for all orders. Right now this only works for parcel shipments. (And that info could be carried back to our inventory/order integration with Dear Systems, also super useful.)
Bonus if we could create a custom carrier entries in the carrier list section complete with tracking link formats, so that when we enter the pro number under 'mark as shipped' it gets appended, such as:

Our shipments are roughly 50% parcel and 50% LTL freight. We would use Shipstation more extensively (and upgrade our subscription tier to account for the additional orders processed!) if we had the option to add tracking and carrier info to an order to mark it as shipped. Instead, we have to cancel all LTL orders in Shipstation and send LTL tracking info to the customer manually. This is silly. All you need to do is add the ability to add custom carrier names to the drop-down on the interface to mark an order as shipped. That's it! Thanks.

Hi, with the impact that covid has had on ecom and the emmergence of smaller same day or next day delivery. Companies like Xpedigo and other smaller carriers should be able to minimally share their tracking number and have the basic functions of: inserting a tracking number, manifest creation and pick-up resquests. These are basic needs for carrier and the canadian sub-market is definately to be tended to ASAP.- Gabrielle

We have customers who pickup pallets with their own trucks. No way to effectively make a manual order and then adjust inventory, etc. Mark as "shipped" does not update the data properly. This sucks. I have to manually edit my inventories for dozens of items. Simply add a "pickup" option for a shipping method.

Coming to comment again... I have to make a delivery today. Can't make a custom carrier (Delivery) so have an exception to the process leading to errors.
It's been at least 8 years now. Please just allow us to create a custom carrier - or at least make two standard ones : delivery and will call.
Why is this so hard?

I have emailed for some time to support about this. We NEED to be able to add our own shipping carriers which are in Asia. We use local post office but need to be able to scan in their tracking numbers and create labels. I don't know why this is such a hard feature to implement allowing customers to create their own carriers is a must for people using your software from Postal Carriers which are not available.

It is now at 7 years since people have been requesting this small but impactful feature. Just please allow the creation of a custom shipping method. Or FFS, just create an OTHER shipping method so allow mapping to it.
As it is now, we have to select each and every shipment that is either FOB or service you don't list and select mark as shipped, then one by one select thru the giant list of Australian courier services and select other.
Please give this attention even though it has not gotten the votes. Keep in mind, manufacturers may not understand the voting system and it the vote is not a true reflection of the importance of an issue.

Why is this still an open issue? Our ERP (Dear Systems) sends all our delivery, FOB, courier, and LTL shipments to Shipstation - where we have a to one by one mark manually as shipped by "other". It would be better that Shipstation would print the appropriate label for each custom fulfillment method so we don't have an exception process for each method.
After 6-7 years of requesting this feature.......

There's no way to automate this as I can't select other as an option in the Automation Rules section.

Yup. We use a local courier service and we also allow customer to pick up themselves. Other than using "Other" we need a better solution.

This is an absolute *NEED* for ShipStation if you do any type of Pick-Up and don't want to generate dummy labels.
It should function exactly like and other Shipping service (so you can select the Ship From location).
With Shopify multi-location, ShipStation not having this as an option basically nullifies automation we could be doing, and causes massive confusion with their proposed solution of generating a dummy label (we have to custom code a bunch of things to make sure the fake tracking number doesn't get to the customer).
This seems so simple. There's no shipping integration needed, it's all within ShipStation.

We have orders inside of ShipStation that we want to fu-fill without creating a shipping label (for Pickup In-Store). I believe a custom shipping method would allow us to select the "Ship from Location" before it marks it as as shipped. This like a feature ShipStation should be working on because buy online pickup in store is very common and required to survive in Retail. Right now the only way of processing an order for pickup in store is to select the order and "mark as shipped" This completes the sale but doesn't allow us to select the store it get fulfilled from which creates a sales and inventory discrepancy. This is a huge issue for users who are using ShipStation with Shopify Multi-location.

This would be a great option

Suprised this is still under review. It would really help businesses who provide alternative shipping methods to the "main" carriers and it would reduce workflow times because the workaround is at least 2 manual steps, if not three compared to the "standard" ship methods that can be automatically populated. Hopefully, this will be considered important enough soon since it has been a request here since 2013. Thanks

Any chance this be available in V3?

We have lots of pickup orders at various locations and would like to handle everything in ShipStation but there is no way to set custom carriers and packages and assign them to those orders which would be extremely helpful.

Any update on this? Seems like an easy software upgrade & considering there is still no solution since 2012, it makes me suspect there is a hidden reason this feature does not exist.

adding to the list for the need to create a label for local courier, pickup or other custom shipper that is not integrated. We use DTrac for our internal couriers but marking shipped doesn't create a seamless process. Love to print a label that indicates the appropriate custom method rather than just marking shipped and not printing the label.

This is exactly what we need. Marking orders "as shipped" excludes the order details (qtys, products, etc) from being included in reports or even exports, so it's unsatisfactory. We also have local pick-ups and even hand deliveries to customers near-by and those are lost from any reporting. Work-around is to create a label with a SS carrier and then not use it. It's lousy, but at least you can get the data included in reports.

This seems like basic, core functionality. You should really provide a way to print a basic from/to mailing label with a choice of "other" for the carrier.
You may not be aware of this, but you are not currently partnering with EVERY SINGLE carrier and delivery method that companies use to get their product to their customer. Yet many companies have made SS a core part of their order processing workflow. The inability to handle some percentage of orders for companies that use carriers and methods you don't support is a flaw in your service that could be easily remedied by simply providing an "other" carrier and letting us print a generic label.
It's pretty hard to believe that this issue has been sitting in here un-addressed for (at this point) over five years.
