Allow users to select orders in a list and bulk email those customers
We do a lot of presales on shirts that can't be shipped right away when sold. It would be nice if we could select orders from any list of orders and send an email to those customers. It would just be another action at the top of an order table like hold until, mark as shipped, etc. It would open a dialog that would allow us to put in a subject and a body for an email to update the customers about the status of the items they have ordered. This would cut down on a LOT of support emails if we could easily message to these people on a regular basis while they are waiting on their order to ship.

Hey @Everyone,
Thank you for your feedback, we are actively reviewing this feature and appreciate all of your comment and votes.
The product team will review your request and you’ll hear from us once we have made a decision.
Please continue to share your ideas and additional information about how you’d use this “bulk email” feature by posting here in the forum.

We want to send emails to customers for each stage of the manufacturing process (which is how we use your tag system). Every time a tag is updated, the customer gets an email stating "your order is now in production", "your order is now awaiting pick up", etc.
As others have noted, at the moment the system is able to automate emails only when imported. If automation was also able to be manually run, that would be huge. Could be done one of two ways:
1. Run automations that are email related every time order sync. So if we need emails to go urgently, we just re-sync.
2. Just add a button next to they sync button "Run Automations", or "Run Manual Automations" -

Hi product team - can you provide any updates on being able to email customers things like:
"Bill - thanks for your order is due to ship on Tuesday"
"here's the copy of that invoice you requested since Shipworks doesn't let sellers show pricing on shipment emails"
"Dear customer - I am wanting to inform you that your order has multiple tracking numbers since it shipped from various locations. My current shipment manager, ShipStaion, only lets me show one tracking number on the order, so I wanted to reach out to you and make you aware of this so you don't freak out"
"Hello Jane - thanks for your order. Here is that commercial invoice you needed in order for your order to pass through customs in Indonesia"
"Bob - here is a copy of your revised order. We only had two of these in stock instead of the three units that you ordered. The tracking number will follow in another message tomorrow".
I would love to be able to send custom emails through Shipstation - yo whassup with you guys?
Whatcha thinkin about in Austin? Thanks for taking all of your time to roll out really important things like testing fancy fonts and popular things like Bandcamp and Cin7

"We could brag about how much testing we put into it or the fancy fonts we chose, such as Roboto and Adelle Sans. But what you probably care more about are the results and the fact that lower case i’s and l’s really look differently now". -

I see the email packing slip feature is available in the mobile app when you go to print a packing slip. Let’s get this email packing slip capability on the desktop version. Being able to send the customer a custom email anytime during orde processing is grand.

Hi @nate,
Thanks for reaching out! Additional feedback is always appreciated. This idea is still on our radar, and we'll update you here when we have more information.
The ShipStation product team closely monitors the feedback forum to understand the business challenges at hand. We're constantly prioritizing new integrations and ideas based on comments, votes, and helping you ship efficiently--to name a few factors.
Please keep an eye on our blog and release notes to see what else we've been working on.

I would use it to let customers know when their order will ship if it's backordered.

One more clarification:
ShipStation currently has everything in place for emails. The only thing missing is to be able to make emails work with existing unshipped orders that have already been imported. If you allowed emails to work with orders in that status you would solve it.

Hello. Can you provide more details/transparency on the review process?
Here are some points to open the discussion:
1. What are some concerns SS has about this request?
1a. If you do create a bulk email feature for existing orders, just make it wide open and customizable like you already do with your templates. Users will be able to insert their own trigger points that are already present in your automation tools.
2. Can a list of workarounds be created that would limit SS exposure to large email quantity?
i.e. -create PDF template that can be attached and emailed through desktop client email.
3. Help SS users understand why a review may take 2-3 years. ( the design process of a recent Lexus grille took 3.5 years to complete -
Hi @Nate, thanks for checking in on this. This idea is still under review and hope to hear more about how you and others would use bulk emails.

Imported orders get tagged if they have a bad address. We then have to email them in another software system to ask the customer how to fix the address. It would be easier to email directly from SS and have it leave notes in the activity log.
Even better would be the ability to create email templates that will include the name and order ID.

Hello. We want it pre-ship, here's why.
We get order frequently that are "Flagged" as an address error. Many of these are known customers or obvious errors easily fixed by shippers (Ste on wrong line, common mispelling, etc.) but about half require us to contact the customer ... missing apartment number, transposed addresses, etc.
For those orders the shippers send and Email asking the customer to verify/correct their address. We have a very nice template built in Ship Station that inserts customers names, order # etc. but there is no way to send it to the customer to elicit their response.
This would make a great program even better, it's a pretty common, routine, and useful function in this type of software to be able to communicate with the customer regarding shipping issues -- whatever they may be -- from inside the platform. The really nice ShipStation templating feature would makes this feature a standout in the field.
We at Discount Vials, for those and other reasons, think this feature would be very useful and you should implement it. Thanks for considering out request.

@ShipStation - Could we get an update on this critical feature?

@ShipStation- what's going on with this? It's been under review now for more than 18 months, and it has been 6 months since the last update. This is a critical feature for us, as explained in previous comments.

No update? I am always anxiously awaiting the release notes...to be disappointed that this feature is still not available. It's so critical for our business. Particularly at holiday times when we can get backed up with orders and need to notify customers quickly.

Admin,
the ability to send an email at the time of import is helpful, but is just part of the equation for us.We do customized/personalized orders and those orders go through several manufacturing steps before they are ready to ship (proof approval, printing, finishing, etc.).
Like many others have posted in this thread, we want the ability to easily send out updates. For example, when a batch of orders is sent to printing, we tag all of those orders a certain color. It would be really convenient to show only orders tagged that color, select all of them, and then select "send email" from the "other actions" drop down and then be able to choose an email template to use that lets them know their order has progressed to that next step in the process.
Doing that one by one is just an impossibility with a lot of orders, so the bulk select and email option is real necessity to keep our customers informed and happy.
