Have different printers for international vs. domestic labels
Please enable a feature that you can choose what printer will print labels. To be more specific: we want to print International Priority and express with the regular printer and the rest of the labels in the 4x6 printer.
The product team will review your request and you’ll hear from us once we have made a decision.

I've been comparing ShipStation to ShipWorks and there are many things I prefer in ShipStation but this one is a killer. My shipping is split 50/50 between domestic and international. I cannot use letter-size labels on domestic because the box is too small (and an envelope costs more). I cannot use 4x6 sticky labels on international because of duplicate forms, letter-size invoices, etc. So EVERY time I ship something I have to go into settings->printing setup->document options. Even if it was already set correctly, I have to do this because I have to check the setting. It would seem to be a pretty straightforward thing to implement mapping of destination to label size/printer: if destination is USA then set label to 4x6, if not, set it to letter size.

We use a laser printer and 4x6 labels for all our USPS shipping needs.
Our FedEx department uses a ZP500 Plus zebra printer.
The zebra printer is more efficient for our FedEx department as it provides labels for a large volume of packages on a daily basis.
The laser printer works for the USPS department as Customs Forms are often required.

We have a USPS based department and a FedEx department. It would be ideal if both users could print as they needed. ShipStation's universal setting for printer preferences makes it impossible for this to happen.
As a result, we are going back to ShipRush for all our FedEx shipping, which defeats the purpose, really, of a one-stop shipping platform.
@TheRealDeal That's the issue, we don't want to change any settings for whenever we have Priority or Express orders. It's just as easy to enter the into the stamps software which is setup correctly. We shouldn't have to do it either way though.
I have the labels print on the 4"x6" thermal labels and I stick them onto an 8.5"x11" sheet and cut it in half. So far nothing has come back, but it's still a hassle.
Charles, the way I do it is I print international labels on 8.5x11 paper, fold that in half, put it in the pouch, and I've never had a problem that way before. Only hassle is changing the ShipStation setting.
We ship Int'l orders everyday. We can use the settings as-is for First Class Int'l, but for Priority or Express we have to switch over to Stamps.com software to generate labels at the correct size. Like Robert Mierzejwski said, the small once can be placed into the USPS customer form pouch, but our fear is them falling out during transit due to being too small. The pouches don't seal and are meant for half-sheet papers, not 4x6 labels.

I've already voted for this months ago but it definitely helps keeping the topic alive and active. I'm wary of doing this, but I have successfully printed the 4 page labels on the 4x6 thermal and literally just shoved them into the clear pouch. It's worked on some 50 orders now. In other words, I don't think it has to be on an 8.5 x 5.5" piece of paper. My biggest fear is that the text is too small to read and they reject the shipment somewhere along the way.
ShipStation, you are so close already. I created an automation rule that is halfway there. Criteria: "Country is not equal to United States." The "Add an action" button should have an option for "set default printer to [insert printer]"
We get enough that it's a hassle not having these features.
We ship international daily... can't believe this has been under review for 4 years now...
Hey, everyone! Thanks for all of your updates, and thank you for checking in!
Since our last update in September, in addition to our routine upkeep, new partnerships, and the recent 6 Weeks of Speed as mentioned by @critterandguitari, we've been buzzing like bees to revamp this forum and how we prioritize what's next.
At this time, printing domestic/international labels to separate printers is still under review. While we are researching this--and all of the ideas in the forum--we read your feedback daily and answer your questions by the next business day.
Any details you provide helps the Product Team design new features based on your business needs. We'll reach out to you if we need more information--or to see if you'd like to try out new features before everyone else!
To keep the ball rolling here, how often do you receive international orders compared to domestic?

I sure hope that this can be implemented ASAP, as this is a big issue ShipStation!
Since ShipStation can't be bothered to respond or give a proper update I'm just going to go ahead and point out that their competitor ShippingEasy allows for this. If this is a must have for your store then you may want to check them out. Sorry ShipStation, but you're sucking really bad.
I agree. I've just been printing the 4 labels with our thermal printer and sticking them onto 8.5x11" sheets and cutting them in half. Definitely not an optimal solution. Please please please incorporate this. I can't imagine it's too difficult to do.
Hi Shipstation, how long does it take to review a feature request? This has been under review for 4 years? FOUR years.
Meanwhile, all of your users who have to switch paper sizes must click seven (7) times to change a simple variable.
I was into your "6 Weeks of Speed" - why wasn't this part of it??
So right after i posted this, i noticed similar post: http://support.shipstation.com/forums/126593-request-a-new-shipstation-feature/suggestions/2420804-have-different-printers-for-international-vs-****
That post has 94 votes and is under review. Just so you know if you find my post first.
So i just posted similar request at http://support.shipstation.com/forums/126593-request-a-new-shipstation-feature/suggestions/10449156-need-international-usps-postage-forms-to-print-to before finding this feature request. But one and the same. I see this was posted originally in 2011. Glad it is under review but as comments below say, we need this. Please.
So i have Labelwriter 4XL set up to print 4x6 labels. Shipstation printing setup does NOT separate out handling the international USPS 4 sheet CP72 form from domestic single label form.
Now that i switched to Labelwriter 4XL for domestic, when i have an international shipment i have to download PDF, then can print to the laserwriter with changed orientation, changed paper size (default is 4x6 which is needed to make Labelwriter 4XL work automatically), and rescaled to 100%.
We used to use Endicia before Shipstation. Endicia has individual settings for regular domestic labels, and international CP72 and CN22 forms.
Please make your printing setup more knowledgable about the different USPS forms printed and allow a separate assignment to a printer, with settings for paper size. This is important, the paper size. Before we figured out we had to download a PDF and make it work that way, when trying to print the 4 page forms of the CP72 using Shipostation connect printing, it scaled them weirdly and used the whole page of 8.5x11 on the laserwriter, and lost some info.
And no, i don't want to waste expensive label paper and print the USPS CP72 on four 4x6 labels. I want to print on 8.5x11 paper and use the PO's free plastic pouches.
