ShipStation’s Feedback and Fresh Ideas Forum is moving!


We have started the process of moving our ideas forum to a new home in the ShipStation Community.

As of August 4th, 2021, this Feedback and Fresh Ideas Forum is no longer accepting new ideas, votes, or comments. However, this forum will remain visible until shortly after the new Ideas board on the ShipStation Community goes live. After that date, this forum will no longer be visible.

If you would like to post an idea after August 4th but before the new Ideas board is live, we have created a temporary discussion board in the community for you to do so. Once our new Ideas board is live, our moderator will move all posts to their permanent home.

ShipStation has used this same forum since we released our very first version back in 2011. In that time, we’ve implemented hundreds of our users’ ideas! But, as our users and our product has evolved, we’ve realized the way we seek and manage our users’ feedback must evolve as well. Starting in September, all feedback and ideas discussions will take place in the Ideas board of the ShipStation Community

If you are not already a member of the ShipStation Community, please join! You can participate in user discussion boards, read exclusive community blog posts, earn rewards through community exclusive events, and much more. You’ll be prompted to log in to your ShipStation account and then redirected back to the community where you can set your unique username and customize your profile (if you wish). What will happen to the existing Feedback and Fresh Ideas posts?


Unfortunately, we cannot move all ideas to the new Ideas forum. The posts we are not moving are being set to the  "Archived" status in this forum.


The posts we do move will maintain their statuses, voter count, comments, and link to the original poster.

  • All posts in Started, Planned, and In Consideration Queue statuses.
  • Some posts in the Under Review status or with no status, based on post age, recent activity, vote count, and relevance.

  1. Automatic printing of Packing Slips for new orders

    Because this original request I made for this was closed when an unrelated feature was introduced, I'm creating a new one.

    I would very much like to be able to have the automation in ShipStation be able to print. This would allow me to have it automatically print all new orders that have downloaded, so that warehouse personnel know an order has come in when the printer starts spitting out packing slips. This is something we're used to having in a different product we switched from to ShipStation and it's the main thing we miss. With printing being done through…

    ShipStation’s new layout (formerly called V3) does currently show when both labels and packing slips have been printed through ShipStation (either via ShipStation Connect or downloaded from the Print pop-up… if you use the browser print option, we cannot track the print status). You can see the print status in the Shipments tab by showing the Label Printed and Packing Slip Printed columns, or by opening the Shipment Details screen.

    We will consider the feedback around auto-printing packing slips when orders import, but there are a number of challenges around this approach that need to be overcome (for example, how to handle when the printer workstation is asleep or there is a hardware issue and printing is unsuccessful – ShipStation doesn’t have a way to receive that kind of feedback from the printer and it would not be desirable to show a packing slip as printed when it actually hasn’t…

  2. Make use of UPS's smart pick up feature.

    UPS knows to pick up a package that ready for pickup without having to have a daily pick up.

  3. Customize Branded Returns page

    Love the branded returns page, however we'd like to have the option to customize more to our liking.

    1. Allow us to modify and change reasons for return
    2. When reason of return is "Other" have a notes field for customer to enter details of return
    3. Ability to disable certain products from being allowed to be returned

  5. Add a duplicate order feature

    Currently during an exchange, we reship the original order and then have to change the packing slip by hand writing the changes. While we could create manual orders for each of these, right now customer information does not automatically fill in all of the time when creating an order. When this happens we can go to the customers tab and then search for the customer and then create an order from there, but this seems like an extra step. It would be convenience to have a "duplicate order" button that would create a new order to the same recipient directly…

    Hi, everyone! Thanks for showing your support here! Can you tell us more about what you would use this feature for?

    From the previous comments it looks like some users are looking to use this for exchanges or more accurate accounting. Do you all agree?

    What do you think about our re-ship feature? Every time you re-ship an order, we will show you all the tracking numbers related to that order and its status. You’re able to change the order details for each label you re-ship.

  6. Allow the ability to specify a weight for "Your packaging"

    To get accurate rates we've been adding the weights of packaging to the weights of each of our SKUs. But when multiple SKUs are ordered at once, the weight ends up being higher and we could potentially be over-charged.

    If we could input weights for our packages we've created under "Your Packaging" we could input the actual weight of each SKU and could end up with more accurate order weights and shipping rates.

  7. Have different printers for international vs. domestic labels

    Please enable a feature that you can choose what printer will print labels. To be more specific: we want to print International Priority and express with the regular printer and the rest of the labels in the 4x6 printer.

  8. Different Printing Setups Apply to Different Users

    Different users that are in different offices/warehouse with different printers (thermal or laser) and print different size labels (4x6 and 8.5x11) should have the ability to have their own label/printer settings saved to their account instead of the need to switch setting every time globally.

    Hi @dom, thanks for checking in on this one. We’re still interested in this idea and we don’t have a definitive timeline on it. It isn’t on our immediate roadmap but it is something we’re always looking into.

  9. Allow shipment of unpaid orders

    ShipStation is a great tool for shipping items but it shouldn't force all orders to be paid before they are shipped.

    We ship a lot of orders that are "paid" by purchase order and having to mark them as paid in ShipStation in order to ship them creates accounting issues. When we pull the orders Into Quickbooks, they come across as paid and we have no automated way of tracking unpaid invoices.

    I like the idea of identifying orders in ShipStation that are not paid but let me decide if I want to ship them!

    Thanks for your feedback! We’d like hear other scenarios from other users so we can revisit this idea. What specific workflow requires shipping unpaid orders? What is the most frustrating thing about having to ensure orders are paid for before you ship them (or mark them as paid)? We look forward to hearing more from you!

  10. Allow for automation rules to work on multiple item orders

    Need the ability for the automation rules to see multiple item orders. So you can create logic that IF it includes this SKU and also this SKU it will process these rules. This should be able to be done for as many items in the order.

    The current automation rules do not work well if you have multiple skus that get sold together in a shopping cart.

  11. CommerceHub Integration

    You really need to integrate with CommerceHUB. WE just signed up with HomeDepot.com online portal and the require the use of CommerceHUB to fulfill orders through their system. This is a large company that services huge online companies like bestbuy, walmart, toysrus and more. Please get an integration set up asap and take over the shipping integration world!

  12. FedEx Freight - LTL

    We would like to ship our LTL items under our FedEx Freight account for LTL items. This is for Economy Shipping and Expedited by ground not AIR.

    We are still interested in supporting LTL Freight. However, our current infrastructure does not support any LTL shipping providers. We will continue to review the integration and let you know once any updates occur.

  13. API branded Tracking Page

    We send Shipping Notifications via our own system instead of ShipStation's built in shipping notification emails. We are looking for the ability to link to the branded tracking page. In order to do this we would need the ability to grab the link from ShipStation's API. Is there a way to do this currently? If not, I would like to request this feature.

  14. Automatic update more often.

    Please automatically update all orders at least once per hour. The frequency right now is anywhere from once per week to once per couple days. This isn't nearly enough.

    Hey @Eric, thank you for taking the time to post your feedback here! ShipStation shouldn’t take a week to update your orders, and I see you’ve opened a few tickets with our team. I’m glad you’ve gotten in touch with us about this and that a few of our folks were able to give you some more information on how our update processes work.

    I am going to keep your feedback handy if, in the future, we end up making such a change and would like to invite users to try it out, but it this type of update is not in the foreseeable future. Your idea will remain active here in the forum so we can see what other users are running into business challenges because of this update frequency.

  15. Include both Billing Address and Shipping Address when d/l 'ing orders

    Include all relevant data when downloading order info. Often times I need to contact the person who purchased the products and as it works now I would have to go back to the shopping cart to get that info slowing the process.

  16. international return labels

    The ability for Shipstaion to process international return labels. I know that you can not create an international return label in ShipStation because the ship from location has to be in the same country as your ShipStation account. We have to use a different service specifically for international return labels, making it extremely inconvenient and adds an unneeded expense on our part having to use two different services.

    Hi everyone! Thanks for your comments here on international return labels. Can you tell us more about how you handle international returns? For example, if they follow the same return policy as your domestic returns or if there are more restrictions since international shipping requires additional documentation?

  17. Allow users to select orders in a list and bulk email those customers

    We do a lot of presales on shirts that can't be shipped right away when sold. It would be nice if we could select orders from any list of orders and send an email to those customers. It would just be another action at the top of an order table like hold until, mark as shipped, etc. It would open a dialog that would allow us to put in a subject and a body for an email to update the customers about the status of the items they have ordered. This would cut down on a LOT of support emails…

    We've been on shipstation for many years now. We're moving into the wholesale business, and need to use Zoho for our CRM to best prospect and manage accounts. We need transaction data back to Zoho so we can see how accounts are trending, etc. Anyway - we're using Magento as our front-end, but Zoho Inventory for our ERP (and it talks to Zoho Books, and back to CRM and to Support - yada....)   20. Make it possible to print labels and packing slips/items on Doc Tab

    Usually, you can purchase thermal labels with a doc tab addition on top of the typical 4x6" label. Well, on other programs like ShipRush, we should be able to print item names/packing slip information on the doc tab. This is really really useful!
