ShipStation’s Feedback and Fresh Ideas Forum is moving!


We have started the process of moving our ideas forum to a new home in the ShipStation Community.

As of August 4th, 2021, this Feedback and Fresh Ideas Forum is no longer accepting new ideas, votes, or comments. However, this forum will remain visible until shortly after the new Ideas board on the ShipStation Community goes live. After that date, this forum will no longer be visible.

If you would like to post an idea after August 4th but before the new Ideas board is live, we have created a temporary discussion board in the community for you to do so. Once our new Ideas board is live, our moderator will move all posts to their permanent home.

ShipStation has used this same forum since we released our very first version back in 2011. In that time, we’ve implemented hundreds of our users’ ideas! But, as our users and our product has evolved, we’ve realized the way we seek and manage our users’ feedback must evolve as well. Starting in September, all feedback and ideas discussions will take place in the Ideas board of the ShipStation Community

If you are not already a member of the ShipStation Community, please join! You can participate in user discussion boards, read exclusive community blog posts, earn rewards through community exclusive events, and much more. To join, go to community.shipstation.com and click the profile icon. You’ll be prompted to log in to your ShipStation account and then redirected back to the community where you can set your unique username and customize your profile (if you wish). Once registered, you can participate in any discussion on the community. 


What will happen to the existing Feedback and Fresh Ideas posts?


Unfortunately, we cannot move all ideas to the new Ideas forum. The posts we are not moving are being set to the  "Archived" status in this forum.


The posts we do move will maintain their statuses, voter count, comments, and link to the original poster. 

Posts we will move to the new Ideas board: 

  • All posts in Started, Planned, and In Consideration Queue statuses.
  • Some posts in the Under Review status or with no status, based on post age, recent activity, vote count, and relevance.
  • Posts that have been set to Completed within the last 12 months.

  1. Bring Back Hotkey & Barcode Scan Actions in v3 Layout

    Please bring back the Hotkey & Barcode Scan Actions in v3. I am attempting to set up scan to verify & print (which v3 is required for) and I'd like to print out scannable barcodes so my staff does not have to use the keyboard while they ship.

  2. Dashboard to manage client shipping

    We offer product fulfillment to our clients. We also require our clients use ShipStation for their ecommerce sites. That said, is there a way for us, the fulfillment company, to have a ShipStation account that will allow us to see all of our client funded accounts. Currently we login to each account of which we are set up as a user. This is quickly becoming a nightmare and hard to navigate as there is not clear announcement of the account profile name in the header of the site.

    We are about to start a beta program for 3PL accounts that will allow merchants to delegate orders from their ShipStation account to a 3PL ShipStation account for fulfillment.

    We will be publishing some help articles about this program in the next few weeks with a form for any 3PL that is interested in joining the beta program!

  3. Germany shipping

    Would be good to be able to ship from Germany to our customers in Europe. Now that Brexit has happened we are diverting our Europe shipments from our UK office to our German office. WE use the same UPS, FedEx carriers but would like to be able to ship from Germany.

  4. Customer VAT numbers pull through to commercial invoices

    It would be great if there is a way to pull through customer VAT numbers onto our UPS commercial invoices created on ShipStation. At the moment VAT numbers are shown on a custom field but are not pulled through to the commercial invoices. This is vital when shipping high value EU shipments, especially now with Brexit.

  5. Automate EORI Numbers

    It is a legal requirement that EORI numbers are used on shipping goods from the UK to EU and Rest of the World. This field has been implemented granted, but still requires manual intervention to apply the EORI to each order, not an easy task when shipping 1000's of parcels a week off shore. Can this not be automated by rule, that when shipping to EU, the EU EORI number is selected, and when shipping outside of the EU (Rest of World) the UK EORI is used?

  6. Select Cheapest Service

    i would like shipstation to be able to choose the cheapest shipping method for each order that comes in. currently, i use UPS & USPS and i have to manually select between the 2 services to see which one is cheaper. this process is very time consuming and needs to be done on an order by order basis. i would like shipstation to automatically upload the cheapest shipping method so i can print all the labels at once.

    We are currently working on a feature that displays the best way to ship (either based on best price or fasted delivery time). The goal is to show the best way to ship across all of your connected carriers.

    The next phase of this feature will include automation options. We’ll update this post when the development work has begun.

  7. Stop signing me out repeatedly (aka make "Remember me" actually remember me)

    Every time I go to use ShipStation, I have to login again. The "Remember Me" option does nothing. Support tells me that the actual function of that option is to tell ShipStation not to signout automatically while I'm in the middle of typing. What?

    (And, yes, I have been signed out in the middle of typing an address when I forgot to choose that option — i had to login again and re-enter the address.)

    The "Remember Me" option should do what it says — remember me for a relatively long time, And, if I don't choose it, it should…

  9. Allow for returns portal label on split orders

    Currently if a store has two orders with the same order number we can't generate a return label. We frequently have an order we split into two. It would be great if the returns label portal would just return both orders that match the order number and zip. It could show the items on both orders and allow the user select the items they want to return.

    We are currently planning to add support to the Branded Returns Portal for split shipments. We will update this post once we have released this ability in ShipStation.

  10. Realtime Carrier Rates

    Provide Real Time Carrier rates for eCommerce integration - or provide UPS/USPS/FedEx credentials so we can use 3rd party plugins to pull the rates.

    ShipStation has started work for certain selling channels (currently Shopify, Magento, and BigCommerce, with more to come) that allows the carts to display rates pulled from shipstation during the customer checkout process.

  11. The ability to ad carriers for freight.

    It would be nice to ad our LTL Carrier to our list of carriers. You do a nice job for ground but fall way short for anyone using LTL freight. Even if it was an option for our developer to write a script it would be worth while and would not jam your team up. Please make an option to ad your own LTL carrier with an open API that will feed information back and forth. Thanks.

  12. amazon transparency

    Amazon has recently introduced their "Transparency" to better track inventory and to ensure its authenticity. We carry dozens of transparency enabled products which for merchant fulfilled orders require us to scan and upload transparency codes to Amazon that are scanned off the product. Currently this upload process is manual. We'd like for ShipStation to add a feature through the Amazon API that allows a scanned transparency code to be uploaded to the order and transmitted to Amazon when tracking information is transmitted.

  13. Adding inventory through Mobile app warehouse location

    Your customers would benefit greatly from warehouse location available on the mobile app. We use our phones (handhelds) to do inventory control as well as order pick. So, without warehouse location we cannot use the mobile app for adding and checking inventory. Instead we end up using the website through a tablet but that doesn't have your great UI like the mobile app. I see a lot of customers are chiming in on this development, but our thought is for adding inventory to our bin locations through bar code scan. So yeah, include a bar-code scan capability too.

  14. inventory api

    I would love to be able to determine product counts through the API.
    This allows me to do things like automatically order certain things as they run low on stock.

    We have different manufacturers sending products to a single warehouse and it is very tedious to have a manual process around checking that the quantity that was received was the proper amount, and that we aren't running low on things like packing slips.

  15. Automated Shipping Price Comparison Between Multiple Carriers

    Automated Rule for comparing 2 or more shipping options and choosing least expensive.

    We ship using FedEx, UPS, and USPS.
    It would save us a huge amount of time and money each year if each order would automatically pick the cheapest shipping option between selected carriers.

    For example:
    1. Order # 1234567 for a "blue widget" gets imported into SS with dimensions 8" X 6" X 4" and weighs 11lbs

    1. Automated Rule checks price for FedEx Home Delivery, UPS Ground, and USPS Priority mail Package.

    2. FedEx: $12, UPS $12.50, USPS $11.50

    3. Order # 1234567 automatically gets assigned to USPS Priority…

  16. Date dd/mm/yyyy ..Why not ????

    I know my request will not be universal. I am French Canadian and I have no problem with the fact that ShipStation is only in English. My Branded Tracking Page is bilingual but we must have the option of the format of the date. Ideally for us French it is dd / mm / yyyy. By default in ShipStation it's m / dd / yyyy. This can bring a lot of confusion for my French Client !!! Thanks for watching if this can be an option !!!

  17. Longer description in Inventory History

    On the inventory page, when I manually add or remove inventory under actions tab by clicking minus or plus, it allows me to write a note about it as well. Afterwards when I try to see the notes, I click on the item, and click on History to see all the actions.

    However in this history page, it only shows the first 2 words of the action note, which is not enough. I hope you can allow us to click on the note to see the full note to remember why we removed that inventory.

  18. Support for Bundled Products / Update Inventory for Bundles

    We have a few websites that sell products to wholesalers. For example we will sell a case of a single SKU. Each case has 12 units. It would be nice if SS could allow us to setup virtual bundles that deducted multiple units of a single SKU.

  19. updating inventory via barcode scan

    Since we now use the Shipstation inventory feature, it would be great to be able to barcode scan inventory into the Shipstation system. It just makes sense if we are using barcode scanning to locate orders, etc that we would be able to scan a products barcode, enter the received amount and it would update the Shipstation system.

    We are a small but growing company and prefer to keep as much as we can in one native system which also keeps overall costs a lower for us. We are happy to pay a bit more to Shipstation for these solutions.
