ShipStation’s Feedback and Fresh Ideas Forum is moving!


We have started the process of moving our ideas forum to a new home in the ShipStation Community.

As of August 4th, 2021, this Feedback and Fresh Ideas Forum is no longer accepting new ideas, votes, or comments. However, this forum will remain visible until shortly after the new Ideas board on the ShipStation Community goes live. After that date, this forum will no longer be visible.

If you would like to post an idea after August 4th but before the new Ideas board is live, we have created a temporary discussion board in the community for you to do so. Once our new Ideas board is live, our moderator will move all posts to their permanent home.

ShipStation has used this same forum since we released our very first version back in 2011. In that time, we’ve implemented hundreds of our users’ ideas! But, as our users and our product has evolved, we’ve realized the way we seek and manage our users’ feedback must evolve as well. Starting in September, all feedback and ideas discussions will take place in the Ideas board of the ShipStation Community

If you are not already a member of the ShipStation Community, please join! You can participate in user discussion boards, read exclusive community blog posts, earn rewards through community exclusive events, and much more. To join, go to community.shipstation.com and click the profile icon. You’ll be prompted to log in to your ShipStation account and then redirected back to the community where you can set your unique username and customize your profile (if you wish). Once registered, you can participate in any discussion on the community. 


What will happen to the existing Feedback and Fresh Ideas posts?


Unfortunately, we cannot move all ideas to the new Ideas forum. The posts we are not moving are being set to the  "Archived" status in this forum.


The posts we do move will maintain their statuses, voter count, comments, and link to the original poster. 

Posts we will move to the new Ideas board: 

  • All posts in Started, Planned, and In Consideration Queue statuses.
  • Some posts in the Under Review status or with no status, based on post age, recent activity, vote count, and relevance.
  • Posts that have been set to Completed within the last 12 months.

  1. Ability to Choose Shipping Account for Return Postage

    Currently, you can change your Shipping Account when creating postage in the situation you have two courier accounts. For example: we have 2 FedEx accounts and can switch between which one we want to use when creating initial shipping postage. However, when creating return postage we cannot choose which Shipping Account to purchase from of the 2 FedEx accounts we have. Our only option is to use the account which is set as the Primary option. We would love to have the ability to choose our accounts not just for the initial postage but also the return.

  2. Make Return Labels stand out as RETURN LABELS to avoid mixup in shipping

    The problem when using a Pay-On-Use return label that gets included with the outbound shipment, is that the pay-on-use return label can get accidentally switched and used as the outbound label because they look virtually the same. It would be great if there was an option to customize the return label to make it stand out more as a return label to avoid the mix up when shipping. For example having "RETURN LABEL" at the bottom of the label in BIG BOLD type.

  4. Mark as Returned without the return Label

    Sometimes customers return or sent the package themselves, So In that case we want to Mark the order as returned because if we try to return with the normal process it creates a return label and has to select courier company. it also charges some amount for creating return label. But we suggest to see this feature ASAP so that we can prevent the charges and keep the record of the Return arranged by customers themselves.

  5. Can SS please make it mandatory for customers to

    Can SS please make it mandatory for customers to add a reason for return before they are able to receive the return label in the returns portal? This would be so helpful to my online store to understand why customers are returning so I can better my product and I believe this would be an easy addition. Thanks!

  6. Get communicated back to ShipStation from selling channel when we refund to customers on selling channel.

    For now, even though we refunds to customers, it doesn't get communicated back to ShipStation from the selling channel.

    If Shipstation communicate refund information with selling channel, it would be much easier to claim to carrier.

  7. API Return Label Items

    When listing shipping labels via the API, both shipment and return labels for orders are sent in the response. Shipping labels marked as returns currently include all the items that were part of the associated ShipStation order, whether or not the items were returned. It would be useful to only list the items that were associated with the return label itself, rather than all the items associated with the original order.

  8. Shorter Branded Return Page URL

    It would be nice with the Branded Returns URL could be short and sweet instead of the current one.

    Right now it is the below url which is really long.

  9. Customizable Returns Portal

    Customize verbiage, font, color, etc. on the Branded Returns Portal so customers feel that they're still on our webpage.

  10. "Marked as Received" Filter/Automation Criteria

    Hi Shipstation,
    It would be great if the "received" status for returns could be used as a filter/automation criteria. If this was made, when packages were marked as received (either manually or automatically) we could send email notifications, add tags, create filters solely for returned and non-returned shipments, etc. This would be immensely helpful in managing returns.

  11. Ability to set the "Ship From" address as the billing address in our backend.

    We are a manufacturer that dropships products to 3rd party merchants customers. It would be great to have the ability to set the ship from address to the billing address in Woocommerce.

  12. Return Address Removal

    Please find a way to remove the customers address from the return label. Many customers do not want their address on the return labels mostly for security reasons and because they are government operated building.

  13. Returns Portal for Drop Ship Company

    We are a drop ship company that enters tracking provided by suppliers. Labels are not always generated through ShipStation. If the outbound shipping label is not generated through ShipStation, then the Returns Portal cannot generate a prepaid return label for the order. I want the Returns Portal to generate a return label for the order regardless if outbound shipment label was created in ShipStation or elsewhere. This would be a great feature for drop ship companies to allow their customers to utilize the feature.

  14. Can you add a feature to the other actions drop down to move an order to refunded?

    This way when running a report it doesn't show up as a revenue since it wasn't cancelled. Most times people request a refund from the bank without ever returning the product so not only did we not make money we lost inventory in the process so making something to track that in ShipStation would be so helpful for my business.

  15. Don't require return shipping label creation for returns

    Most of the returns we do don't require a return shipping label. Yet it's required to create one when creating a return on an order. Then we have to remember to go back and void those labels. It would be great if you could uncheck a box when creating the return to not create a return shipping label to help in the workflow with our customer service team.

  16. Sending return label with outbound shipment - Aus Post

    Our product requires us to have a return shipment label with every outgoing shipment. Unfortunately, this isn't a feature in the Shipstation / Aus Post integration. This means we are having to go into Aus Post and manually enter customer information to create a return label. It adds a lot of time to our process as well as potential errors. I understand that this is feature with USPS and I know that other companies have this feature with Aus Post. Is this a feature that could be enabled in Shipstation?

  17. Mark certain shipments ineligible for return

    I'd like a way to mark certain shipments as ineligible for return. I often run sales where it is marked as final sale, however since the portal still will accept the order number for return I sometimes get these orders returned back by the customer. Maybe it can be a way to mark "any orders between these dates" as cannot be returned or a way to select while creating the shipment that it can't be returned. This would be super helpful to me as right now I have no way to stop this from happening other than telling the customer…

  20. Allow different Return label paper size that's sent to customers. We're receiving full-page 8.5x11" Return Labels on our Packages!

    Currently the Return Label sizes sent to customers cannot be changed to what our Printer Label settings are. Since we print thermal on 4x6", it automatically sends them to the customers at 4x6". We would have to change the printer settings for our Labels everytime we started a return.
    Since it's sending it in the 4x6" format, when they print on 8.5x11" (because most customers don't have thermal printers), it's expanding it to full page. It looks ridiculous, (and while also a little funny), it's kind of embarrassing considering how small these polybags are with returns. Some of them have…
