Product Feedback & Fresh Ideas

The ShipStation Feedback Forum collects your ideas and allows you to vote and comment on other ideas so our product team can understand what new features are most important to you or what business challenges we need to address next.

Everyone has 20 votes to spend on ideas that are important to them (but you can comment as much as you like).

While all ideas will get reviewed, it's simply not possible for all ideas to make it onto the product roadmap. The more activity an idea has, however, the more likely it is to be considered. So, be sure to check if your idea has already been posted so you can add your votes and comments to it!

Suggestions for Writing a Great Idea Post

  • Write a title to succinctly summarize your post. Other users should be able to identify if their idea is similar to yours just by reading the title so they will know to vote and comment on it!
  • Explain the problem you are trying to solve and what you think should be added or changed in ShipStation to solve this problem.
  • Describe how you would use this feature or how you think it should function to serve your need.
  • Attach a screenshot to help illustrate your point.
  • Put the idea in the category that best fits what you are trying to accomplish (for example: Order Management, Insights & Reporting, or Printing & Documents).

What to Expect With an Idea

Our moderators will regularly review posts to ensure:
    • They are categorized in a logical way. If not, they may move them to the proper category.
    • The title accurately reflects the idea content so others can understand. If not, they may edit the post title to help others identify posts they want to vote and comment on.
    • That posts are really ideas and not bug reports or issues that require contacting our support team.
    • That any request that has an existing solution or can be accomplished with existing features gets a response to let everyone know a solution or feature already exists and how to learn about it.
Our moderators will also update the statuses of posts as they are considered by our product team. If an idea makes it onto the roadmap, we'll update the idea status from Planned to Started to Completed as work progresses on the idea. If an idea is declined or archived, our moderator will update the status to indicate so and you will receive your votes back to use on other ideas in the future.

Finally, if more information is needed on an idea, the moderator will post a reply to ask for them. If it is your idea or you have commented on the idea, you should receive an email notification when this occurs.

  1. Make Label Queue Visible to All Users Account-wide

We need a process that allows anyone who is logged into our account on shipstation via a mobile App or another PC to immediately create a shipping label which would be placed into a queue that everyone on the same account can see. This would allow immediate notification that an order has been processed and would enable our off-site warehouse to print, pack and ship orders that were placed in the label queue. Right now it appears the label queue is not visible across all users who are logged into the same account.

  2. Page Numbers for Multi Page Packing Slips

Many of our orders are longer than one page when the packing slips are printed. We use the packing slips as pick slips and they are the "center of truth" for the order as it is being processed in our warehouse.

We are looking for the ability to print page numbers on our packing slips (ideally for multiple page orders). We would want the first page of an order to have a 1, the second to have a 2, and so on until the specific order is completely printed. Then on the next order, the first page will be numbered…

  3. Dynamic coupon code on custom packing slips

We currently put coupon codes on our packing slips, but to offer a TRULY juicy coupon we would need dynamic coupon codes that allow us to upload a list and have them inserted into the packing slip.

When doing this currently with Amazon orders we have to use a "group" coupon code, which means a customer can share the code to their friends, which is why we have to be careful not to offer a deal that's TOO good.

But if we had the ability to upload a list (usually text file or csv) of coupon codes that are set…

  4. Save third party accounts

I would love the ability to save a third party account so we don't have to paste over the account number and zip code every time. We do a lot of shipping that requires shipping on their accounts.

Also, we have employees in shipping that can't access that information and simply have to wait on a manager to print the label for them. A drop-down box with our saved third parties would help tremendously.

Then we could also set rules to default imports to certain third party accounts we have set up. I know FedEx ship manager has this functionality…

  5. Add Company Column to Shipment Manifest

The Shipment Manifest currently only lists the Recipient column to identify the orders (in addition to the Order #). While this is fine for Retail Shipments to individuals, we are unable to identify shipments to our Wholesale customers at a glance because we know those by their Company Name and not necessarily by the recipient's individual name. The manifest would be much more useful if the Company Column were added, or at least provided as an option in Document Settings to turn on/off.

    Thanks for your great idea!
We’ll keep this in mind but would like to see more interest from other users before we pursue this idea. For now, please leave your votes and comments to help keep this discussion active. Being specific in how this would affect your workflow and how you’re currently doing it will help our product team to implement new features. If you know any other users that are interested please send them here!

  7. New 26 character short field for Product Name / Dynamic Label Messages

ShipStation currently provides the ability to print 3 custom messages on shipping labels, including dynamic information about the order.

Our feature request is for ShipStation to allow us to assign a "shortcode" for each Product Name, such that if the product name is longer than 26 characters we can assign a shortcode for Label Printing that may be different than the full name of the product shown on the Packing Slip and Pick List.

For example, the full name of the product shown on the packing slip may be "Joe's All Natural Hot Sauce, Red Pepper 12 oz." while the…

  8. Automation Rules - Print 2 labels for orders that contain specific items

We could really use an automation rule that would create an additional (2nd) label for orders that contain specific products. Certain products (specifically hats) we like to package separately from the rest of the order to keep the product safe. It would be helpful to have this automated so we don't have to manually create additional labels for orders that contain these products.

  9. Country of Origin Documentation

We'd like to generate and print Country of Origin documentation through shipstation for our Canadian customers who purchase products made in the US. That way they can benefit from duty-free clearance under NAFTA.

  10. Dynamic Return Address Modification at the Order Level

Our customers require us to modify the return address on our shipping labels to reflect a company name and address specific to them. This occurs at both the customer and order level where 5 orders from the same customer need to reflect 5 different company names in the return address. It looks like we can accomplish this in an automated fashion via the api, with the create label call, but only as a standalone label call. This will work for some of our products but prevents us from processing shipments manually as they require association to an order and we…

  11. Automation Rule for Label Messages

For our wholesale customers, they require a PO number to be included on the shipping label.

We capture the PO in the "Notes from Buyer" field.

It'd be helpful if one could use an Automation Rule to selectively decide which "Notes from Buyer" fields should be added to the message field at the bottom of the label e.g. if "Notes from Buyer" contains "PO:" then add "Notes from Buyer" to "Message 1".

While we use the "Notes from Buyer" field currently, this may change in the future, and having the flexibility to build Automation Rules to drive what gets inserted…

  12. UPS Mail Innovations - Customs Line item

Mail Innovations does not allow more than 1 line item on the customs declaration document. There is no current way on the product page to consolidate all of the items into one line item in bulk. I have to individually open each order and delete line items.

    For example:
Create a preset group for these orders - Cotton Clothing - condense declaration line items to one line

Right now it creates separate line items on the declarations for each line item on the order.

    I hope this makes sense!

  13. Ability to hide products within woocommerce bundles on shipping label

We are currently using a plugin which is available through Woocommerce called product bundles which you can see here:

    https://woocommerce.com/products/product-bundles/

This plug-in gives us the ability to sell bundles of different products though our site while being able to track each individual product within our inventory.

On the Wordpress front end we can hide each individual product on the email and check out so that if a person purchases a bundle they just see the bundle name and price. The whole time within the orders on the back end it still tracks each product within the bundle.

    When we use…

  14. switching between 8X11 and 4X6 custom packing slips

I was hoping you can add the ability to make switching between custom 4x6 and 8x11 packing slips easier. Our store is mainly a daily deals type store but we also have thousands of different products so half of our sales are people ordering one quantity of one product and the other half of our orders is just like any other. It is important that we switch between the 4x6 printer and the 8x11 printer in order to make our daily workflow go smoothly.

We currently print the daily deals type orders on the 4x6 and regular orders on 8x11…

  15. Allow printer commands to be send between shipments

We currently print 100 - 200 shipments a day and once in season will be printing 400 - 1000 shipments each day. We use a printer that has a cutter and have set the print driver to have the printer cut every other label. This works great until it hits a shipment that has enough line items so that the packing slip overflows to a second page. After that point, every label/packing slip is out of sync, with labels all attached to the wrong slips. This happens and creates a huge mess without warning.

If ShipStation allowed us to insert…

  16. Multiple Printing Setup

Sometimes we process batches by **** a pick list, and then run 4x6 shipping labels and packing slips at the same time (so they come out together - we have all our inventory laid out from the pick list, and then work through the combined Packing Slip and Shipping Label...
HOWEVER, there are times we want to run Packing Slips for a batch, pick those to a separate tote for EACH order (all the items look the same visually - hard to sort them from a pick-list pile).
Under this style of process, we then weigh and print the Shipping…

  17. Pick list to get product location from inventory location, not the "Warehouse Location" field

Just as the title suggests, it would be great to be able to have the pick list get the products location based on the location in inventory, not by the warehouse location field. That field has to be manually updated. A products inventory location is constantly changing, or same products in split locations, manually updating that field just to generate a pick list is very cumbersome.

It would also be great if it gets the location that has the least amount of inventory first.

  18. Automatic printing of Packing Slips for new orders

Because this original request I made for this was closed when an unrelated feature was introduced, I'm creating a new one.

I would very much like to be able to have the automation in ShipStation be able to print. This would allow me to have it automatically print all new orders that have downloaded, so that warehouse personnel know an order has come in when the printer starts spitting out packing slips. This is something we're used to having in a different product we switched from to ShipStation and it's the main thing we miss. With printing being done through…

ShipStation’s new layout (formerly called V3) does currently show when both labels and packing slips have been printed through ShipStation (either via ShipStation Connect or downloaded from the Print pop-up… if you use the browser print option, we cannot track the print status). You can see the print status in the Shipments tab by showing the Label Printed and Packing Slip Printed columns, or by opening the Shipment Details screen.

We will consider the feedback around auto-printing packing slips when orders import, but there are a number of challenges around this approach that need to be overcome (for example, how to handle when the printer workstation is asleep or there is a hardware issue and printing is unsuccessful – ShipStation doesn’t have a way to receive that kind of feedback from the printer and it would not be desirable to show a packing slip as printed when it actually hasn’t…

  19. Print Page Numbers On Packing Slips

Please add a [PageNumber] tag support to the PackingSlip template design screen editor.

When printing a pack of 50 packing slips for 50 orders, it would be nice to have the ability to see the page numbers on the bottom of those printed packing slips. Each page would show up as 1/50 , 2/50, ... upto 50/50 . This is an important feature to have when printing many orders at once and also when dealing with multiple order batch printings.

Here are some good reasons to have page number support :

    1) Each order can be easily recognized and organized…

  20. Better Print Options (Label, Slip, Both)

    http://imgur.com/RvPG99z

I found the print drop down options did not do what I expected. The option for labels prints both the label and packing slips. The packing slip option just prints packing slips. What do you think about it being:
    --Labels (just labels)
    --Packing Slips (just slips)
    --Both (both)

Hey @Alex, thanks for posting this! Printing gets a little tricky to talk about since there are a few different ways to set these up. What kind of formats/paper sizes are you looking to print for your labels-only, packing slips-only, and both label + packing slip?
