ShipStation’s Feedback and Fresh Ideas Forum is moving!


We have started the process of moving our ideas forum to a new home in the ShipStation Community.

As of August 4th, 2021, this Feedback and Fresh Ideas Forum is no longer accepting new ideas, votes, or comments. However, this forum will remain visible until shortly after the new Ideas board on the ShipStation Community goes live. After that date, this forum will no longer be visible.

If you would like to post an idea after August 4th but before the new Ideas board is live, we have created a temporary discussion board in the community for you to do so. Once our new Ideas board is live, our moderator will move all posts to their permanent home.

ShipStation has used this same forum since we released our very first version back in 2011. In that time, we’ve implemented hundreds of our users’ ideas! But, as our users and our product has evolved, we’ve realized the way we seek and manage our users’ feedback must evolve as well. Starting in September, all feedback and ideas discussions will take place in the Ideas board of the ShipStation Community

If you are not already a member of the ShipStation Community, please join! You can participate in user discussion boards, read exclusive community blog posts, earn rewards through community exclusive events, and much more. To join, go to community.shipstation.com and click the profile icon. You’ll be prompted to log in to your ShipStation account and then redirected back to the community where you can set your unique username and customize your profile (if you wish). What will happen to the existing Feedback and Fresh Ideas posts?


Unfortunately, we cannot move all ideas to the new Ideas forum. The posts we are not moving are being set to the  "Archived" status in this forum.


The posts we do move will maintain their statuses, voter count, comments, and link to the original poster. 

Posts we will move to the new Ideas board: 

  • All posts in Started, Planned, and In Consideration Queue statuses.
  • Some posts in the Under Review status or with no status, based on post age, recent activity, vote count, and relevance.
  • Posts that have been set to Completed within the last 12 months.

  1. Disable archive doc when print DHL label

    I am using DHL and whenever I print a label, an archive document will be printed out automatically. I want a settings that can disable DHL archive doc as it is a wast of label. Since we are using Shipstation, it uses twice the amount of label and half of them now turn into garbage. Please let me disable archive doc print out in Shipstation like in Shiptheory courier settings.

    Currently, DHL requires the “Archive Doc/Copy” be presented to the carrier upon drop-off/pick-up of packages.
    We’ve seen a lot of comments for this being a waste of labels, however it is a requirement by the carrier.
    Would the consensus here be that a better option would be to have this Archive Doc/Copy print in a seperate method?
    For example: Labels are printed on 4×6, and the Archive Doc could theoretically be printed on an 8.5×11?

  2. Specify item weight for custom deceleration doesn't exist or working

    For Customs declaration requirements, if we have orders with different items with different weight - the commercial invoice created by SS doesn't actually use the weight that was setup for the product but instead seems to use the package weight and dividing it evenly amount all the items. If there was one item that let's say weighed 20lbs and another item weighed only 1 pound for a total of 21 lbs. SS is inputting both items as weighing 10.50 lbs EACH. This is wrong and should be corrected. Any work around or others having this issue?

  3. Pick list to get product location from inventory location, not the "Warehouse Location" field

    Just as the title suggests, it would be great to be able to have the pick list get the products location based on the location in inventory, not by the warehouse location field. That field has to be manually updated. A products inventory location is constantly changing, or same products in split locations, manually updating that field just to generate a pick list is very cumbersome.

    It would also be great if it gets the location that has the least amount of inventory first.

  4. Save third party accounts

    I would love the ability to save a third party account so we don't have to paste over the account number and zip code every time. We do a lot of shipping that requires shipping on their accounts.

    Also, we have employees in shipping that can't access that information and simply have to wait on a manager to print the label for them. A drop-down box with our saved third parties would help tremendously.

    Then we could also set rules to default imports to certain third party accounts we have set up. I know FedEx ship manager has this functionality…

  5. ETD Supplementary Documentation Submission Feature

    We need the ability to upload a PDF document for ETD submission with Fedex. This for example could be a department of transportation certification document or something similar. Fedex Ship manager supports this feature so shouldn't be to hard to build it out.

  6. Shipping Label Format Printing

    We print either 4" x 6" or 4″ × 6″ (w/ Packing Slip) labels interchangeably depending on the type or size of order. We'd like the ability to switch between the two selections on the fly without having to navigate away from advanced or complicated custom searches.

  7. Better Print Options (Label, Slip, Both)

    I found the print drop down options did not do what I expected. The option for labels prints both the label and packing slips. The packing slip option just prints packing slips. What do you think about it being:
    --Labels (just labels)
    --Packing Slips (just slips)
    --Both (both)

    Hey @Alex, thanks for posting this! Printing gets a little tricky to talk about since there are a few different ways to set these up. What kind of formats/paper sizes are you looking to print for your labels-only, packing slips-only, and both label + packing slip?

  8. switching between 8X11 and 4X6 custom packing slips

    I was hoping you can add the ability to make switching between custom 4x6 and 8x11 packing slips easier. Our store is mainly a daily deals type store but we also have thousands of different products so half of our sales are people ordering one quantity of one product and the other half of our orders is just like any other. It is important that we switch between the 4x6 printer and the 8x11 printer in order to make our daily workflow go smoothly.

    We currently print the daily deals type orders on the 4x6 and regular orders on 8x11…

  9. Pick List - Option to Total at SKU Level Ignoring Ship Method

    On the pick list, it would be really help for each line item to be totaled at the sku level.

    Our pick list is printing with the same sku on seperate lines because the skus have different shipping methods.

    This means we have to total each line to figure out how many of that single sku to pick...

  10. Contact information on Commercial Invoice

    It would be awesome if the contact information could be pulled from the Buyer/Recipient info for the commercial invoice. I've had customers complain that they were not contacted by DHL because there was no contact info on the CI.

    Ability to put Labels & Packing Slips in ascending or descending order by quantity of items in each order when creating labels/printing.

  12. Print two different Packing Slips in a batch.

    Print two packing slips for a batch of orders at once. One packing slip should be printed sales order amount, a second packing slip should be printed without the sales order amount. We currently are only able to print one packing slip in a batch (with sales order amount). The second batch (without without sales orders amount) has to be printed one order at a time.

  14. Commercial Invoice Content Types

    We sell books and educational materials overseas. We would like to have the drop down menu on "content types" on the commercial invoice default settings to include books and educational materials as our customers will pay less customs/duties with that designation. The "merchandise" option is requiring our customers to pay more in taxes and duties. Please help...

  15. Different Printing Setups Apply to Different Users

    Different users that are in different offices/warehouse with different printers (thermal or laser) and print different size labels (4x6 and 8.5x11) should have the ability to have their own label/printer settings saved to their account instead of the need to switch setting every time globally.

    Hi @dom, thanks for checking in on this one. We’re still interested in this idea and we don’t have a definitive timeline on it. It isn’t on our immediate roadmap but it is something we’re always looking into.

  16. Make Label Queue Visible to All Users Account-wide

    We need a process that allows anyone who is logged into our account on shipstation via a mobile App or another PC to immediately create a shipping label which would be placed into a queue that everyone on the same account can see. This would allow immediate notification that an order has been processed and would enable our off-site warehouse to print, pack and ship orders that were placed in the label queue. Right now it appears the label queue is not visible across all users who are logged into the same account.

  17. print customs forms automatically

    Need a way to automatically print the commercial invoices (customs forms) when an international label is printed. This only currently affects UPS and FedEx since USPS is consolidated into the shipping label itself. However, having to leave the shipping area to go to shipped items and find the order then click the paper icon... employees sometimes forget this step which then creates an exercise in time management and phone calls to UPS/FedEx to fax the documents.

    If we could have a setting on the labels like we do with "print label with packing slip" but print labels with customs forms"…

    Hey @YFinder! Thank you for taking the time to post your idea. We’ll keep your idea in mind when updating our printing workflow, but for now we’d like to hear what users have to say about customs forms.

    In the meantime, there are two ways you can print these forms without leaving the Orders page:
    1. If you are shipping from the Order Details window, there is a paper icon next to the tracking number you can click to print.

    2, If you’re using batches and the Label Batch Status window pops up, you can access “Other Forms” by selecting the “Other Documents” menu located under "Packing Slips.

  18. Allow manual Blind Shipping

    We do drop shipping for many customers and need to make the package look like it is shipping from our customer to their customer (even though we are shipping it). While shipping, we should be able to select "Other" from the warehouse field and manually type in a temporary "From address"

  19. Being able to set the packing slip size by store instead of a global setting

    Currently, packing slips are a global setting applied to all stores. If you have multiple stores where some packing slips are 4 X 6 and some packing slips are 8 X 11, you need to change the account settings every time you print. Would be way more convenient to be able to assign the size of the packing slips by store so you don't have to constantly change the account setting.

    Hey, @csr! Thanks for bringing this up! We’ll keep this in mind when updating our packing slips. For now, we’d like to see your idea gain more support from other users before making a decision.

    Can you tell us what makes the packing slips different between your two stores? Hopefully this added information will help other users better understand your idea so they can add their input and votes.

  20. Adding new packing slip sizes

    Hi there - we love Shipstation and are looking at ways to make our packing more and more efficient. We're in need of a different (smaller) sized packing slip (4x2) to fit on our packaging, while using a few of the variables that are available via Shipstation custom fields, Order information etc.
    The current sizes available 4x6 and 8.5x11 could theoretically work if we manually cut them but its too much work when you are trying to run an efficient operation, especially since Zebra and other printer providers have so many different-sized labels already available
    I think this can address…

    Hey @suyog! Thanks for posting this feedback here! We’ll keep this one in mind when researching features related to packing slips. For now, we’d like to see this idea gain momentum from other users.

    Can you provide us with a link to the label sizes you’re thinking for packing slips and what printer model you have that supports this?
