ShipStation’s Feedback and Fresh Ideas Forum is moving!


We have started the process of moving our ideas forum to a new home in the ShipStation Community.

As of August 4th, 2021, this Feedback and Fresh Ideas Forum is no longer accepting new ideas, votes, or comments. However, this forum will remain visible until shortly after the new Ideas board on the ShipStation Community goes live. After that date, this forum will no longer be visible.

If you would like to post an idea after August 4th but before the new Ideas board is live, we have created a temporary discussion board in the community for you to do so. Once our new Ideas board is live, our moderator will move all posts to their permanent home.

ShipStation has used this same forum since we released our very first version back in 2011. In that time, we’ve implemented hundreds of our users’ ideas! But, as our users and our product has evolved, we’ve realized the way we seek and manage our users’ feedback must evolve as well. Starting in September, all feedback and ideas discussions will take place in the Ideas board of the ShipStation Community

If you are not already a member of the ShipStation Community, please join! You can participate in user discussion boards, read exclusive community blog posts, earn rewards through community exclusive events, and much more. To join, go to community.shipstation.com and click the profile icon. You’ll be prompted to log in to your ShipStation account and then redirected back to the community where you can set your unique username and customize your profile (if you wish). Once registered, you can participate in any discussion on the community. 


What will happen to the existing Feedback and Fresh Ideas posts?


Unfortunately, we cannot move all ideas to the new Ideas forum. The posts we are not moving are being set to the  "Archived" status in this forum.


The posts we do move will maintain their statuses, voter count, comments, and link to the original poster. 

Posts we will move to the new Ideas board: 

  • All posts in Started, Planned, and In Consideration Queue statuses.
  • Some posts in the Under Review status or with no status, based on post age, recent activity, vote count, and relevance.
  • Posts that have been set to Completed within the last 12 months.

  1. Support for Bundled Products / Update Inventory for Bundles

    We have a few websites that sell products to wholesalers. For example we will sell a case of a single SKU. Each case has 12 units. It would be nice if SS could allow us to setup virtual bundles that deducted multiple units of a single SKU.

    Thank you for your feedback and supporting comments! While this is not currently on the roadmap, our product team is aware of the demand for customizable pick lists. We are looking at what would be required implement this.

    We encourage our users to continue to vote and comment on this topic with any details about how customizable pick lists would solve your business challenges and what types of customization you are looking for.

    Thank you for this feedback. We will be considering more automation around splitting and combining shipments in our 2021 roadmap.

    Auto-combining is a bit more technically intensive than auto-splitting as it requires certain data fields to be validated and matched, but we are definitely exploring how to accomplish this.

  4. Automatic printing of Packing Slips for new orders

    Because this original request I made for this was closed when an unrelated feature was introduced, I'm creating a new one.

    I would very much like to be able to have the automation in ShipStation be able to print. This would allow me to have it automatically print all new orders that have downloaded, so that warehouse personnel know an order has come in when the printer starts spitting out packing slips.     ShipStation’s new layout (formerly called V3) does currently show when both labels and packing slips have been printed through ShipStation (either via ShipStation Connect or downloaded from the Print pop-up… if you use the browser print option, we cannot track the print status). You can see the print status in the Shipments tab by showing the Label Printed and Packing Slip Printed columns, or by opening the Shipment Details screen.

    We will consider the feedback around auto-printing packing slips when orders import, but there are a number of challenges around this approach that need to be overcome (for example, how to handle when the printer workstation is asleep or there is a hardware issue and printing is unsuccessful – ShipStation doesn’t have a way to receive that kind of feedback from the printer and it would not be desirable to show a packing slip as printed when it actually hasn’t…

  6. Select Cheapest Service

    i would like shipstation to be able to choose the cheapest shipping method for each order that comes in. currently, i use UPS & USPS and i have to manually select between the 2 services to see which one is cheaper. this process is very time consuming and needs to be done on an order by order basis. i would like shipstation to automatically upload the cheapest shipping method so i can print all the labels at once.

    We are currently working on a feature that displays the best way to ship (either based on best price or fasted delivery time). The goal is to show the best way to ship across all of your connected carriers.

    The next phase of this feature will include automation options. We’ll update this post when the development work has begun.

  7. Add Picked Up, Hand Delivered as Mark as Shipped carrier options

    When I hand deliver or the customer picks up and I manually mark it as shipped, it requires me to select a carrier, so can you make a carrier in the drop-down that is "picked up" and does not request a tracking number to be put in and maybe make another carrier that is "hand-delivered" or "self-delivered" and also does not require a tracking number?

  8. Automatically split items into shipments based on rules

    Hi- We often times have back orders but can ship partial shipments. Would love the ability for Shipstation to automatically split orders for us based on rules.

  9. International currency.

    First, I would be appreicated your service!
    I've been downloading "Order-Dara Export" from the order.
    But I also would be nice if I can see "Currency" there.
    When I get GBP 54.66 order, I was able to see as USD 54.66.
    Hope to be added Currency tab for international orders and stores.

  10. Make use of UPS's smart pick up feature.

    UPS knows to pick up a package that ready for pickup without having to have a daily pick up.

  11. Email Authentication based on Client Domain

    We want the FROM address set to our domain so that 'via Shipstation.com' does not appear on gmail. We also want to include your spf/senderId records in our spf/senderId records, have the email signed with our DKIM key and have the links use our subdomain instead of email.shipstation.com.

    I’ve posted the following response to our ShipStation community thread and want to also share here for transparency:

    Thank you for your candor with your feedback. We definitely understand and appreciate that the lack of responsiveness on this specific issue has been frustrating. We are working internally to improve how we review and respond to feedback so this doesn’t keep occurring in the future. And we apologize for failing to meet our users’ expectations around this feedback. We will do better and changes are already happening.

    Our product team is investigating how to implement a workable solution for this that will not impact other existing functionality and properly uses the notification service that’s embedded in ShipStation. There are really two issues here that need to be addressed and they don’t affect all users equally:

    Spam – ensuring the notification makes it to your user without getting filtered to…

  12. Track Customer Order Frequency. Ability to place rules based on a customer's order

    Track Customer Order Frequency. Have the ability to place rules, report on the number of orders a customer has placed. For example: Joe has placed 3 orders, he receives a free gift. Adding a step to that, the frequency a particular item/sku gets ordered.

    Now that we’ve added the customer history widget into ShipStation’s new layout, we are exploring other options around this data, like the ability to trigger automated actions.

    We will definitely take this feedback into consideration when planning future automation improvements.

  13. USPS Return Shipping Label without paying postage up front

    The ability to take advantage of USPS Merchandise Return Service and have an option to print a return label with every shipment or selected shipments and not have to pay for the postage unless the customer uses it.     Previously our Endicia integration provided the ability to print pay-on-use USPS return labels if your Endicia account was enabled for this feature.

    We are currently exploring the pay-on-use option for other USPS postage providers. We will update this post with more information when available.

  14. Customize Branded Returns page

    Love the branded returns page, however we'd like to have the option to customize more to our liking.

    1. Allow us to modify and change reasons for return
    2. When reason of return is "Other" have a notes field for customer to enter details of return
    3. Ability to disable certain products from being allowed to be returned

  17. Edit and Delete Customers

    We need to be able to edit or delete customers from the database without having to upload a csv file. Below are a couple examples for when this would be helpful. I'm sure others here will agree that some simple database management would be greatly appreciated.

    I recently had to correct a type-o in a customer record and the process is just unreasonable. Download an example .csv file, add ALL the customer information (not just what needs changing) upload the file, and finally make sure that the original profile was correctly overwritten.   18. Add a duplicate order feature

    Currently during an exchange, we reship the original order and then have to change the packing slip by hand writing the changes. While we could create manual orders for each of these, right now customer information does not automatically fill in all of the time when creating an order. When this happens we can go to the customers tab and then search for the customer and then create an order from there, but this seems like an extra step. It would be convenience to have a "duplicate order" button that would create a new order to the same recipient directly…

    Hi, everyone! Thanks for showing your support here! Can you tell us more about what you would use this feature for?

    From the previous comments it looks like some users are looking to use this for exchanges or more accurate accounting. Do you all agree?

    What do you think about our re-ship feature? Every time you re-ship an order, we will show you all the tracking numbers related to that order and its status. You’re able to change the order details for each label you re-ship.

  19. Allow the ability to specify a weight for "Your packaging"

    To get accurate rates we've been adding the weights of packaging to the weights of each of our SKUs. But when multiple SKUs are ordered at once, the weight ends up being higher and we could potentially be over-charged.

    If we could input weights for our packages we've created under "Your Packaging" we could input the actual weight of each SKU and could end up with more accurate order weights and shipping rates.

    Would love to be able to integrate Sendle (USA) as a carrier. It's available in Australia so hopefully this wouldn't be too difficult since you already have the option available in the Australia market. Really don't want to use another platform but the shipping options/pricing are great!
